I Hate Cardio Check-in, March 15, 06

Miss Lee

Cathlete
Good morning! Oh geez, 2 days in a row! If we're not careful this could become a habit!

On tap for me today is Michelle Dozois and Walk Your Way Slim. If I can manage it, I might pop the PH DVD in and give that a go. I haven't done that one in forever. Have a good one!

Michele

My cardio today is cleaning! LOL! I did the Imax 2 and bike riding for 14 miles so my poor legs need a break and so do my arms. I will be doing lowmax tomorrow and some upperbody workouts. Later~

Charlotte

Holey moley, Charlotte!!! I guess you're taking the day off! I have to do some house cleaning max myself. You know how the sun shines on a piece of furniture and you can see a coating of gray fur? That's my family room:eek:. I'm trying to decide which day I'm taking as a rest day. This is our second day of the check-in and already I'm talking rest days--lol! Actually, I've done some cardio everyday since Sunday. I'm thinking either Friday or Sunday will be my rest day. I'll just see how I feel.

Good job on your cardio, Toasty!

ETA that I would probably just have to go to bed if I did IMAX 2 and rode a bike for 14 miles in one day!:D :p

Michele,

My leather furniture has dried up drool on it from Stinky so I can't stand it and have to clean it. As soon as I clean the hardwood floors there are dried up drool spots everywhere from Stinky. It is like I never clean. Drives me nuts!

Yeah, I love this post Michele. Helps keep me motivated doing cardio. I am actually addicted to working biceps so I have no problem with motivation there. I have to work myself up for squats because I get so dizzy.

Charlotte~~

Soap and water for the drool and then I wipe it down with a dry towel. I will then use orange oil spray, but spray it on the towel, not the furniture and then wipe.

Hi girls

Today I have another 30 minute walk/run planned. I didn't wake up to do it this morning (stayed up too late reading), so I brought my gym bag to work to do it during lunch (there is a gym in my office building). HOWEVER, I got an invitation to lunch with some friends from work and I want to do that instead. Long story short, all three of my really close friends at work just recently left the firm to take jobs in other cities, so I am trying to get into a new "lunch crowd." I know that these girls will continue to invite me if I say no today, but I just want to make sure. I am telling myself that I will just go after work, but about 1/2 the time that does not happen because I have to stay late at work sometimes without notice. And I was actually looking forward to today's run...

We will see if I end up doing it. What I really need to do is go to bed earlier so I can workout in the morning.

Don't feel bad, Diane. It's important to build friendships, too! I was going to try to do PH today but my best friend just called and I'm getting together with her for lunch. I'll just put PH off until tomorrow. I'll do my cardio later in the day but I WILL do it. Heck, I'm on a roll now!

Michele

Hey ladies. Just wanted to let you all know that I just did my cardio. Walked 3.5 miles and let me tell you it is freezing out!! (in the 30's and W~I~N~D~Y!!!)

Charlotte, you must be having warmer weather down in Va to be able to ride your bike 14 miles. It is way too cold here in Pa. I got a bike for Christmas and I'm anxious to start riding it. DS needs to get his cast off of course before we can go riding together.

Wow, Dana! What a trooper you are. I have trouble walking outside when it's windy AND cold--it gives me a headache. I'm so impressed.

Dh and I love to ride bikes. There's a beautiful trail not far from us that runs along a river. It used to be a railroad track. You can rent skates or go horseback riding, and there's even a place to rent canoes if you like. It's really neat. We ride a lot in spring and fall but avoid it during the hot, summer months. It's not a great work out, though, because it's pretty flat, but it's still alot of fun. The farthest we ever rode was 30 miles round trip.

I'm getting ready to do my cardio here in a little bit. Great job, Dana!

Michele

After procrastinating for at least an hour last night, I finally did LowMax, but only intervals 1-4, then cool down and stretch. Had to stop and play Barbies with DD.

I am supposed to run today, but it is too cold outside. Maybe I will try jumping rope for awhile? I'll put something in the DVD player and get a little cardio going...

Of all the threads, this is going to be my favorite!! No guilt, right?
Jenn

Jenn, this is the official no guilt zone! We do what we can, and hopefully we'll improve at our own pace. That is my goal, anyway. I mean, I'm not kidding when I say I hate cardio. I'm always grateful for whatever excuse I can find to get out of it. LOL!

Edited to say that I can't get through ANY of the Max's, so who am I to lay a guilt trip on you. I'm impressed that you made it through 4 intervals.

Michele

I ended up not working out during lunch OR eating lunch with my friends. I tried to go to the social security office to get my name changed (I was married in October, just now getting around to it). But the social security office apparently has this new rule that you have to get your new drivers license first. If only they had made that clear on the website, but they failed to even mention it. So I waited for 45 minutes amongst Houston's finest, contracting who knows how many diseases, only to find that I could not get a new social security card. So I went to the nearest DPS, 25 minutes away, only to find that their computer system was down. So I then drove to another DPS 30 minutes away where I waited 2.5 hours for a new license, all the while being accosted by a barber who told me to tell my husband he is a lucky man. So I didn't get to do either, and tomorrow I get to go back to the SS security office!

Luckily, it looks like I will be able to get off work by 6:30 tonight so that I can do my 30 min walk/run at the gym.

- Diane

Also, I'm so glad to see that other people also do only 4 intervals of Low Max. I usually can only get through 1/2 of Imax 2 or Low Max before I bail. I am hoping my endurance will build up eventually so that I can finish the whole thing. All step workouts without intervals are fine (hard, but I can do the whole thing), but any time there is a blast, I just about die.

- Diane

Egads Diane, you had a terrible day! That 30 minutes in the gym after work will help you blow off steam, then maybe you should have a slice of cake and a can of coke. Oops, I'm confusing my threads--LOL!

Michele

Oh, I understand completely. I can't do blasts---my endurance is terrible. I love a thread where I can admit my cardio shortcomings without feeling inadequate. When I read through some of the daily check-ins I just think, WOW!!! I could never do that. Well, maybe I can someday if I start small and build, at least that's my hope.

I am really looking forward to my workout after work. I recently decided that I want to be a "runner." I know that is silly, seeing as I can only jog for a few minutes straight and I hate cardio, but I see normal people that are more out of shape than me go out and run marathons. It is really inspiring to me. Not to mention that most people I aspire to look like run (such as Cathe).

This all started when I went to my best friend's baby shower a couple of weekends ago. She is a 8 time marathon runner at the age of 27. She has always impressed me when we were workout partners in law school and I could never keep up with her. However, it was meeting her family at the baby shower that really made me want to become a runner. Both of her parents and her sister (age 20) have run several marathons. They all look wonderful, eat clean, and live healthy and active lifestyles. I could only dream of looking like my best friend's mother when I am her age. It was just great to see a family who puts so much value on health.

The idea of training for something like a race all of a sudden really appeals to me. After I finish the walk/run program I am currently on, I will train to run a 5K, then a 10K, and then hopefully a 1/2 marathon and maybe even a marathon after that. I don't think I can do a marathon at this point in my career as a young lawyer just starting out, there is just too much of a time commitment. But in a couple of years (it would take me that long to get to that point anyway) I should hopefully have a more stable schedule and be able to train for longer races.

Anyone else here a runner? Probably a dumb question on a "I hate cardio" check-in.

- Diane

Diane,

I think you can do anything you set your mind to! Setting your sights on a marathon run is a great goal and one I think you can achieve with hard work and dedication. Use this time in the interim to gradually build your strength and endurance.

I'm not a runner. High impact activities are not a good idea for me at this point in my life. I'll be 51 in a couple of months and have undergone a fusion of 2 cervical discs and my body can't take that kind of jarring. I haven't always hated cardio, though. I was pretty athletic when I was younger, but I kind of got out of the habit and have had a tough time getting back in the groove. I think you grow to hate things you're not good at. I used to do step years ago and at the time my endurance was fine, but I'm a natural born klutz and I have always had trouble with choreography. I trip and stumble all over the place. I need to stick with walking and basic hi/lo for now. When I get my endurance back up maybe I'll try some kickboxing.

Hang on to your goals. You'll get there!

Michele

Done!!! I followed my cardio with a Cathe Total Body Stretch. I feel like I've really accomplished something. I'm close to setting a personal record for number of days in a row that I've done cardio. Geez, I'm so pathetic--LOL! Now, if I can only discipline myself to crank it out a little earlier in the day *sigh*

Michele:)
