I did it! I ran my first race!

At 8 this morning I ran my first race! For the past 5 months I've been seriously running (mainly to help lose weight) after giving birth to my DD almost 10 months ago. I never thought I could run a race but I always wanted to. Before having DD I never ran farther than 2 miles at a time because I didn't think I could. The mind is a powerful thing because as soon as I told myself I could then I physically could and then I began to up my mileage. Anyway today I ran a 10K and beat my own personal time of 1:05:00. My goal was to finish (no matter how long it took to run it) and remain focused & strong throughout the whole race. My unofficial time is 1:01:18. I'm just so excited that I was able to achieve one of my personal goals. Beating my own time is a bonus. Next on my list, to run a 1/2 marathon.

Thanks for letting me share my experience!! Happy 4th of July to everyone!!

That's FANTASTIC!!!!!! Way to go!

You did great beating you own PR. I'm sure you'll do great running a 1/2 marathon next. The mind is a powerful thing!

Congratulations Kristi! That is awesome!!! I wish I had the knees for it.

Way to go Kristi!!! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_125.gif[/img] on beating your previous time!! Good luck in your 1/2 marathon...:)

Congratulations Kristi!

I noticed that you live in Kentucky. Where do you plan on running your half marathon? I finished my first 10k Memorial day weekend and have entered the Akron 1/2 marathon in September which is in Ohio.

I would be interested to hear how you might go about training for it.

I too thought I could never do it but it's funny how you just keep increasing endurance and cardio capacity over time. I started very slow at 12+ minutes per mile and I am now down around 9.5.

Congrats again, I know how exciting it is to finish, I actually cried a little when I crossed the finish line.

A HUGE congratulations to Kristi!!!!!! Way to go! There's no better high than crossing that finish line...especially when you have met a personal goal. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks everyone! The news keeps getting better.

My chip time is ....(Drum Roll Please).... 59:45.

I can't believe I made it under an hour.

Hi Lorie! Great job running the 10K. Congrats on your running time. I'm still around the 10.5 - 11 range myself. I'm getting faster a little at a time. I used to run 12 minute miles. I've been thinking about maybe the Columbus 1/2 marathon on Aug. 27, but it all depends on whether I can safely train for it in that amount of time. I've been following Hal Higdon's beginner training for the 1/2. I'm right on track with where I need to be so it is doable. However, my left outer thigh has been very sore for months now, except when I am running, so I'm not sure if it is just soreness or a precursor to an injury. I guess time will tell. Good luck with your 1/2!

WOW!!! What an awesome achievement! You are very #1 very brave for starting out with a 10K and #2 very tough to run it in such an awesome time! Under an hour...that is fantastic!!

Be very proud!! You did GREAT!!

Thanks Sarah! That means a lot coming from you. You did awesome running your first marathon. I keep remembering how hard you worked and your dedication while training. I also think of Carole too! You both are awesome runners!
