I have been telling everyone this cause I was amazed! I can't believe that I forgot to post it here!!!

The other night I was bored and curious....I am pretty proud of my weight gain through my pregnancy regardless of what my doc says lol. To me, I don't look any heavier...I just look pregnant. SO...I pulled out a pair of my pre-prego capris. I figured I obviously won't be able to button them but I thought I should be able to atleast pull them up...AHHH NOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYY! It was like I was trying on a pair of capris that were 3 sizes too small for me!!! I couldn't get them past my thighs!!!! I guess a woman's body really does widen in preparation for child birth! HOLY COW! I had no idea it would be so drastic! I don't see it...but I guess I look at myself every day the change was gradual so I never noticed....

Just had to post that cause I was amazed....

Believe it or not, but that is normal. You will be surprised how quickly your body will shrink down close to your normal size right after the birth of the baby. At this point in your pregnancy a good portion of the weight is from the baby, placenta, extra blood produced for the baby, and even some water weight. I'm sure you will be down to your regular clothes in no time. :)

I noticed within the first couple months of this pregnancy that my body won't even squeeze into my regular clothes. It is amazing how your body remembers what it needs to do and is more efficient the second time around.

It's crazy! lol I have already been warned to make sure I take maternity clothes to the hospital with me to wear after I have the baby and home from the hospital because I probably won't fit into my regular clothes right away...I think I am going to vow to myself not to even LOOK at my regular clothes until atleast a month after the baby is born! Maybe I'll save myself some anguish that way! lol

I'm sure I'll be able to get the weight off and I'll go back to where I was...it's just a matter of when that will happen...

Hi Wendy -
This post made me laugh! How brave you were to try on those pre-prego pants while you are pregnant. It took a couple of months after my baby was born before I even attempted to try on a pair of pre-prego jeans...and it still took a little while after that to get into them! You have a wonderful view of yourself and based on how active you are, I predict you won't have any trouble losing the weight. Enjoy the remaining weeks of your pregnancy!

Us first time MOMS-2-B can be pretty silly I guess, huh? :) ;-) :p :+ lol

A while back I posted that I was worried about my weight gain coz my doc mentioned it was a bit on the high side...I got some great feedback on here and decided that I was happy with myself so PHOOEY on the doc and haven't looked back since! :)

You all are not silly at all! There is a lot of information that first time moms don't know. Books don't cover everything, and doctors only have so many hours in the day. It can be a scary experience if you don't know that what you are experiencing is completely normal. Believe me, all of us moms have had the same questions and concerns too, especially about the weight gain and losing the weight post partum. I'm just glad we can all come together on this forum and discuss pregnancy issues and concerns. At least we know we are not all alone.

Wendy, you have done extremely well this pregnancy with exercising and weight gain. I think you should be very proud of yourself! I know I am very proud of you. Hopefully I can follow in your footsteps with the exercising.

Wendy you're funny. And what were you going to do once you got those pants up????? :) I too am sure that you'll get your pre-preg figure back quickly - I can tell by your positive attitude.

That is pretty funny! And it's SO true. I think I have gone up three sizes overall too. Everything is bigger- from wrists to arms to thighs and butt...everything! But I knew it was happening because I have a pair of Express 3/4 stretchy dress pants that are normally comfy/big, and I was able to wear them for a while, and then I slowly watched them get tighter...and tighter...and then impossible on my legs and butt! Never mind the belly! Now I'd say I'm maybe an 8 at least (normally about a 2 or 4), if I wanted to pull regular pants on. Many of my small maternity pants are too small to wear!

I remember with my other pregnancy, I was so sad telling people "I've even outgrown MATERNITY clothes..." :) but it certainly happens! By 9 months, I think there were two shirts in my entire house that would fit me-- And that counts DH's wardrobe too!

I have outgrown EVERYthing from prepregnancy. Undies, bras, tops, bottoms...even my SOCKS are tight. And I still have 9 weeks to go! I've already gained about 30 lbs though, so I'm a little ahead on that...hopefully it will slow down soon or I'm heading toward gaining too much.

Don't worry, it will ALL come off!

Boy you ARE brave! Forget those, your hips will probably spread 1-2" and then if you collect "extra" around there it will be more. I'm hoping to keep my hips 39" and under. After my last pregnancy and 40 lbs gained, my hips were gulp 41" x( ! But I worked my butt off (literally!) and got down to 36 1/2" and that is where I am now. So for me 39 sounds reasonable ( I think? ) , well it's gonna be what it's gonna be no matter how much I exercise! Don't worry to much one day you'll be back in those capris!:)

What a great thread! Thanks for sharing, Wendy! I wouldn't even dream of trying on my former pants, and I'm only in my 17th week!

If you're looking all-belly, then your butt and thighs have probably expanded in good proportion to your belly. If you think about it, if your legs and but didn't change at all, your belly would look bizarrly enormous.

Cheers!
Sandra

With my son I gained 42 pounds - yikes. But, I'm 5/8", so it didn't look that terrible on me. Anyways, at the very end I still had tons of room in the belly of all my maternity pants...it was the thighs I outgrew!!! I've never had big legs in my life - -I'm definitely not a pear shaped person. I was pretty swollen at the end, and then had a c-section. I came home from the hospital 4 days later and weighed myself and was HORRIFIED to see that I WEIGHED THE SAME as I did at my last appointment before the birth! This freaked me out!!! I didn't weigh again for a week and a half, but then I was down 23 pounds - and my thighs were SOOOO much slimmer/almost normal. I think a lot of it was just water in my legs....

Speaking of water retention...I have been suspicious that I have started to retain water and now I KNOW that I have. Last night just before I was about to work out I noticed how awful swollen looking my one ankle was....my ankle bone had all but disappeared and my ankle looked like a continuation of my calf...YUCK! And when I rotated that ankle it felt tight from the extra gush in it! lol

I will mention this to my doc on monday. I know some amount of fluid retention is normal but I also think there comes a point where there can be cause for concern, correct? I just want to make sure I'm with in the "normal" range.:)

I'm right behind you with the water retention. Just this weekend I told a friend- "Yup, it looks like I've said goodbye to the bones in my hands..." because they are now invisible under a new puffier hand. Also, my wrist bones have disappeared. I remember with my last one, at the end I looked like I was wearing boxing gloves, and it hurt just to make a fist! And yes, my ankles look like extensions of my calves! Not pretty. But I have to say I still feel pretty good. And I got three workouts in this past week! Woohoo!
