I AM THE ULTIMATE WUSS!!!!

OHMYGOSH! What a wuss I am. I have been using Cathe DVDs for almost 4 years, and I can hang with or go higher than Cathe in most of her strength training workouts. I know that biceps are my weakest part, but most of the time I can hang with her on these (granted in ME I do have to use 15#, but in PUB I use 12, 15, 20.)

So I started working with a personal trainer. Goal is to work with her for about 3 months, go full tilt STS for 3 months, and be where I really want to be by Spring '09. My eating has been squeaky clean, and this PT kicks my boo-tay HARD!!! (BTW I am learning TONS from her too.)

Today, we hit biceps. I told her last time that they are my weakest part. She had me on incline dumbell curls. Cathe DVD - I use stability ball for inclines and can use 15#. PT put me on an incline bench, back to about 40 degrees. She gave me 12# bells and told me NOT to keep tension on the muscle at all times, but to come all the way down, squeeze the muscle before I begin the curl up, and really focus - almost in an exaggerated way - on keeping my wrist straight. Exaggerated so that I feel as if I am pointing my knuckles back toward the ground.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!! I think I eeked out 6 reps MAX, then she had me go alternating, and I could still only pump out 1 or 2 more and I was at complete failure! And I felt like a TOTAL FAILURE!!!!! Yes I love DOMS, but I already feel my bi's and tri's like nobody's business. (On tri's, first time I've ever used an assisted dip machine --- oh my!) Boy - do I have WORK to do! Ugh!

Lorrie, you are definitely not a wuss. It's just that you are working out in different ways then what your body is use to. These new exercises are just working the muscle differently. I guess it just goes to show you that it is important to change things up to keep our bodies guessing. I'm so glad you are loving the PT. I'm jealous.

Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy!

Hefty, hefty, HEFTY!

(remember that Hefty commercial? LOL)

Lorrie-I LOVE incline bicep curls! LOVE THEM!!!! And they are so much harder for so many reasons....we don't usually do them, and the incline takes away shoulder and upper torso momentum.

ENJOY the DOMS!

Lori..I must agree, you're definitely not a wuss ;) Those little changes make a big difference. I've been using my ball for incline curls but after reading your post I'm going to use my bench today. I've been following a heavy weight rotation for my UB the last month or so. I'm really trying to push myself and increase my weights every week. The last exercise for my bicep routine is preacher curls and let me tell you they are killing me  Last week I could only get out two sets of 5 reps with 12lb DB. I was discouraged at first but then reminded myself that I had increased my weight on all of my exercises before that ;)

I can usually lift 15 pounders for upright bicep curls, but Amy Bento includes incline curls in her Slo-Mo workout and I'm lucky if I can do 10 reps using 8 pounders. Those things slay me!
