Hungrier After Working Out

Good Morning Everyone,

I work out sometimes in the AM, but most times in the PM. I like to be at work by 5 am so I have to wake up at about 3:30 am to get my workout in so that's why most times I workout after work. Regardless of what time I work out I'm always starving afterwards. I already have a huge appetite and this only makes it worst. Can someone help me out? My solution was going to be to work out on my eliptical machine for 30 minutes in the am and after work doing a cathe tape. Yesterday on the Food Network channel it was an older lady who was a professional eater. She ate so much food and never gained an ounce, she did say she worked out like an hour every morning and for every hour she was awake she worked out 10 minutes out of each hour; and also when she wasn't competing she ate large portions of food but it was mainly fresh veggies and fruits. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Andrea

Andrea-I am NO expert by ANY means, so I am only going to reply based on my personal experiences and what I've read about this topic.

When you workout, you need to eat. Sounds simple-minded, but it really is. You burn a lot of calories when you workout and it revs your metabolism. To keep that metabolism going, you need to feed your body. If you don't eat enough, your metabolism slows down.

Personally, I workout early in the morning, every morning, at 4:30am and done by 6am. To feed my body but not increase significantly on calories, I eat healthy things like baby carrots, ff yogurt, grapes, etc.

Maybe someone with more knowledge about this will reply, but this is what I have learned.

Thanks Gayle for the information. I need to find some healthy snacks to eat to satisfy my hunger. It makes a lot of sense.

I too am often hungry right after a work out regardless of how much I have eaten during the day (I work out in the evenings).

I usually grab a small snack-a couple of pretzels, crackers or a piece of fruit and that is all I need. Sometimes even a cup of tea with a little sugar in it does the trick.

As long as you don't make the mistake of "gorging" after a work out, you should be fine...but don't deprive your body of the "energy" it seeks either.:)

JMHO.
