We now have the meds which work for Lee. Lee is bipolar and for the first time in his 11 1/2 years of life is peaceful, calm, happy; not manic, depressed,suicidal and throwing the whole family into chaos. Insurance co says because we have not "tried" enough other meds first they will not pay for the one med the Dr fortunately hit upon that is Lee's miracle drug because of it's expense. Says 30 pills costs in excess of $400. I can't pay $400 per month for ONE of his drugs along with all the other medical expenses such as copays, not covered dr visits/testing etc, for the whole family. The psychiatrist alone is $125 every other week and paid out of our pocket. So now we're suppose to stop this drug and play with my child's life with other drugs???? I am in tears, distraught and I now have to once again try to fight the damn system. I have too much to do to do this. I just want to love and raise my family, raise and educated my sons.

<--has run into the same problem from time to time and has found that if you get the doctor to call the insurance company and talk to them, he can get a LOT further than you can
<--says the doc should say that this is the ONLY medication that HE feels is appropriate for Lee having known Lee for ______ years
<--says he should even say that Lee's situation is too volatile for him to go thru the trial and error of trying to find something else
<--says at some point, they have to defer to the doc's knowledge of the patient, if nothing else, even if the doc has to tell a few fibs
<--is confident that the word "suicidal" will get the necessary results
<--knows it's not easy to fight the insurance co:( x( :( x(
<--knows they can be the most stubborn SOBs in the universe :(
<--apologizes for trying to offer advice when Mel just wanted to rant
