I am wondering how much fruit do you guys eat in the runof a day? SInce I have cut out sweets, I have been eating more fruit and there is no doubt that it helps with the sugar cravings but it there a limit on how much you should eat.I think I am eating around 3-6 servings a day, is this to much?
Lori:)

Hi Lorihart. I eat quite a bit of fruit because I have a powerful sweet tooth! I try to keep to the fruits that offer the nutrients I might not get elsewhere. Bananas for potassium, Oranges for Vit C, Apples because they are my favorite, Blueberries because I have read so many times that they are one of the "power foods". I also have a grape, strawberry and raspberry habit that can't be helped. Amongst all these choices I usually average about 5 servings a day. Considering that I could be eating sugary junk (empty calories) I think this is a fair amount. 3-6 servings sounds reasonable to me. It also depends on what else you are eating (or not eating).

Hi There,
Thanks for your response. I have limited my calories quit a bit.Actually to about 1200.I know it is a bit low but I am not overly hungry at this amount and I have a slow metobolism.Ive done the eating more...working out more...you name, this is what works for my body.Once I get to where I want to be I can treat myself a little more:)
So yeah,I have been eating a lot of fruit and I just had a big bowl full but I didn't know if I was eating to much.I think I had read somewhere that you should limit fruit to 2-3 pieces a day.I can't remember the reasoning behind it.
Thanks again,
Lori:)

Hi Lori,

I think that if you are trying to get leaner, I believe I've read also that it is a good idea to limit your fruit to 2 to 3 pieces per day due to that fact that fruit is mainly simple carbs (abeit healthy ones). Also, I think it's good to eat some kind of protein along with the fruit to slow the absorption of the carbs. I've been reading Feed the Muscle, Burn the Fat (as so many on this forum rave about), and I think you would really gain a lot by this book as well if you haven't read it already. It is all about how to eat and train to get leaner, which is what we're looking for.

I do know what you mean though about doing what works for you. I keep my calories around 1200 as well. I have to as well. I have added more protein and cut my carbs and that has helped. Hope that helps. But, by all means enjoy that fruit..haha.

3-5 servings is fine. Especially if you focus on berries (lots of antioxidants) and apples (lower glycemic than many other fruits, and eating one before a meal can help reduce appetite).

I have 3 servings in my morning smoothie alone (including the pomegranate juice I put in).

It is good to have fruits with protein and/or fat, at least some of the time.

Oh, I love fruit, but I try to eat it with some form of protein. I will eat half of a watermelon in one sitting and then I go for grapes, cantaloupes, etc. I try to eat my fruit in the morning and afternoon. Never in the evening.
