How much do you burn....

Just wondering if anyone has any idea about how many calories they burn during 4DS HIS? I did the whole workout today and my new HRM said I burned 871 calories. Seems too high, but I'm trying to get this thing adjusted to see if it's accurate. And, I have to admit, I don't know much about them or how they work. Someone already suggested that my max HR is wrong and suggested I do an all out sprint until I'm about to throw up and then check my HR. Any thoughts? TIA

So, you did the entire workout, including the weights? That's on the high side, but it really depends on height and weight, etc. I'm 5'10 and weigh more than the average bear, so I burn more and might come close to that, but that seems high even for me.

Is yours set up to calculate based on your sex and age and fitness level? If it isn't, there is a huge variance as I'm sure you can imagine. I agree with Christine that it's really high considering an hour workout. (An hour run for me burns about 600.)

You're right, that does seem high!

I use a heart rate moniter (Polar) that has a "fit test" on it that calculates your VO2 max. That's a calculation about your oxygen output, which relates to calorie burn. All it involves is laying down without talking or moving or any noise with the chest strap on and the test activated. It counts your heart beats and does some fancy math and tells you what your setting should be. Also, it could be that your max heart rate is set really low and your monitor thinks you're anaerobic when you're really not. Rather than try to make yourself throw up ( :) ) you could look at what your heart rate is at the end of a really tough blast in one of Cathe's workouts and get a feel for when you really are in zone 4 and change your max heart rate to 20-30 beats or so above that. HTH!
