How many ounces of tuna......

are in a 5 ounce can of tuna? I'm thinking MAYBE 3.5?

Is it me, or have the cans gotten smaller & the water gotten bigger?

No, it's not you. I notice this a few months back, the cans are definitely getting smaller & the price is increasing. Just recently bought some & the price increased from 50cents to 75 & there does seem to be less tuna & more water in the can. But I've seen this happen with many products.

It is not you, I see this with boxed products such as cereal and bagged such as potato chips - maybe I can just consider it (carb) portion control :)

This is happening with Peanut Butter too. The jars look exactly the same, but there is now a big dimple at the bottom of the jar which amounts to 10% less pb.

My yogurt containers now have this dimple as well. I thought it was funny that they made a point to mention on their new packaging that it's more enviromentally friendly since they are using 30% less plastic. They surprisingly forgot to mention that you are getting less yogurt. ;) The price has gone up as well.

I remember opening my first can of tuna from a discount grocer (Sav-A-Lot) several years ago and thinking how different it looked. Name brand tuna always seemed so tightly packed, with little moisture but this stuff was... loose, scrambled, and very wet... It looked like it had just been dumped in the can. Now ALL canned tuna looks like that, but the mainstream brands haven't reduced their prices. Surprise.

It's not just you. I've been noticing this in a lot of food items - and I think it's going to get worse. Meanwhile, fast food combo meals keep getting bigger...

I would have loved to be in the meeting where they came up with a way of putting a positive spin on selling us less of their product for a higher price. Whoever came up with the environmentally friendly spiel deserves a bonus!

LMAO! Maybe s/he got something in the ec stimulus package, since it was a true and ingenius effort to sell more product, thereby stimulating the economy.

Well, all I can say is approximately 3 oz. of tuna is not satifsying this hungry girl's lunchtime needs. ;)

I just received a magazine from Costco saying the same thing. They said that their Costco brand will/does have 7 ounces of tuna for the same low price. ( I don't know what their price is but I will look when I go today).
