How many do this?

My DH is right now making the bed and taking the garbage out because the housekeeper is coming this morning. Last night I also cleaned a bit, tidied and organized because she was coming.

We know we're nuts, but were wondering how many others do this? It strikes me as rather amusing....:+

I don't have a housekeeper. It would be a waste of money for me, because I would clean the house from top to bottom before she came:p But I don't think you're alone.

You are not alone Nancy...I have heard of lots of folks who do the same! :)

Why would you clean the house before the housekeeper comes? Isn't it their job to clean houses and take care of everything that needs to be cleaned?

I don't have a housekeeper as I don't trust them. Besides, cleaning the house as much as I hate cleaning is a good workout especially if you clean hard and fast. :)

Hey Lisa.

Actually, there are things that housekeepers DON'T do that lots of folks do before the housekeeper comes. They don't touch clutter or anything like that so lots of people clean up thier "messes" so that when the housekeeper comes she can easily clean with out having to play "clutter avoidance" and then when she is done the house will look even better because it's not a mess with clutter.

I would LOVE to have a housekeeper! Just to have one come in once a week to give my house a once over would be great then all I'd have to do is "maintain" it until the following week....but alas this is only a dream...:-(

Ah, I see now. I only said what I said because my friend is a housekeeper and she does EVERYTHING. I mean EVERYTHING from picking up clutter to fixing beds to doing their laundry. I don't think she cooks but I think it's possible she makes lunches for one family's kids. They're rich people but they pay her quite lousy but she cleans 4 other houses.

How's little Joey doing, Wendy? :)

Nancy,

As you know I own a housecleaning biz. Some of the clients pick up before my girls come and some don't. I always ask that they pick up the clutte but other then that there is no need for them to do anything. They pay for a service so let us do it:) is what I tell them.

Lisa- My company is small and very personalized unlike the big companies such as ( well you all know the big name companies). I screen my people very well and in the years of having this biz I can honestly say no one who works for me has ever stolen. My clients love the fact that they get more personal service, total communication with me at any time about anything. I have keys to over 75 homes and security codes to over 25. That being said I agree house work can be a good workout! It burns calories for sure!

I know sooo many people who do this! Its common - I mean we really don't want the cleaning lady to think we're pigs do we??

Unfortunatley, in my house, even with all the tidying I do - I KNOW my cleaning lady thinks I live in a pig sty! BTW - my cleaning lady really cleans - she'll do a laundry for me, wash the dishes, the oven, the inside of my fridge, change the sheets on my bed - organize my linen closets and even cleans the hair out of my hairbrush! Trust me, as soon as she opens the doors to my closets - she must be swearing under her breath - wondering "how do these people live like this?"

I'm at the point now, where I don't care anymore. I mean, she cleans and that's her job!

I am the housekeeper in this house. But I everyone I know that has one come in does the same exact thing!
I am always going in circles picking up after my 6&7 year old boys so I too burn calories. I also suffer from OCD so that keeps me moving!
Kali:p:D

Man, I just need someone to clean the clutter- if it's just cleaning, I could do that! It's the clutter that gets me...
:D

Terri- it makes sense. How can I expect my housekeeper to clean the table if it's covered with clutter? We also now use a small cleaning service, and they seem great. I like using the service. If the housekeeper is sick they can just send someone else, they call us for feedback, and they deal with the taxes. It's a great arrangement.

Unfortunately, no housekeeper can make decisions about what needs to be thrown out. I have to do that myself. Darn.

There is something about cleaning that I rather enjoy. It's kind of therapeutic. But it's not an option for us. We both work such long hours, if we did our own house cleaning, we'd have no leisure time at all. But after retirement, I may go back to it.

Hi Lisa.

I didn't think any housekeepers messed with clutter. Hmmm! If ever my dream comes true I will have to find one that does!;)

Joey is doing wonderfully! We are still battling the schedule between sleeping and eating and cranking, etc. but all in all everything is going well! He is my little angel and I love him dearly! :+

I don't have one of those. I just can't stand the thought of someone handling my personal things, even if it's just to move them aside so the tables and counters can be wiped and polished.

What motivates me is this: one afternoon I wore my HR monitor while cleaning for 2 hours. I shampooed the carpet in the family room (didn't really use up much energy here because the machine demands that I move it very, very slowlyx(), vacuumed the rest of the house, mopped the kitchen floor, cleaned all the bathrooms, and polished the furniture in the common areas. After 2 hours, my monitor registered 425 calories burned, 60% of them fat. Not bad for zero-impact exercise.:)

Not me. I live alone so I don't have much clutter (but I definitely hide my remote controls b/c they lost my VCR remote once). I have someone come in every 2 weeks to mop the floors, dust, & clean the kitchen & bathroom.

But the heavy duty stuff (really SCRUBBING floors, cleaning out the fridge, getting dust out of corners) is left to me. So every couple of months I'll take a day for a good "spring cleaning."

Wait a sec. You're supposed to get the dust out of the corners? But then what would the spiders attach the cobwebs to? And if you scrub the floors, doesn't it remove that sticky anti-slip coating they get, particularly the kitchen floor? And you're supposed to clean out your fridge? Wow. Who knew?

Pinky,

I'm going to try using my HR monitor anything to give me incentive to clean. It's funny or scary, I sweat more when I do a marathon cleaning session (usually a few hours) than when I workout. I could never figure out why except for the fact my cleaning session is longer than my workouts.
