How heavy can you lift with BB?

I just did SH Legs today, and upped my squats to 85#s. I couldn't do much more and still be able to lift it off my back. I know my legs could handle more, but I don't have a squat rack.

How many of you have squat racks? If not, how much can you lift over your head?

(I'm thinking when STS gets here, I'll be able to do the plyo legs disc the first time around, and maybe get a squat rack during the summer for the second time around)

Hi Ben- I can only lift about 55-60# over my head, so I got a 20# weighted vest. I haven't gone up that heavy for squats yet, but its good to know I can. You may want to check out the vests. I think they come in 10#, 20# and 50#. you can take the weight out of mine to go as low as 5# and work your way up, I'm thinking most are like that.

Hey, Ben!!! Love S&H Legs! Great job on the 85#s!!!

I can only get about 70 over my head. And although I don't have a squat rack, I use the dip handles on my Power Tower as a squat rack. (a power tower has the dip handles, a pull up bar, sit up feet anchors, and the ab cushions to do knee/leg raises). I figure if the dip handles are made to support a 350# person, it can hold my measly little 105# barbell. lol By using it this way, I can squat about 105-110#.

I can do 65-70 lbs over my head. Much more than that and my shoulders start giving me issues. I can really OOMPH!!! it and get more, but its not safe/comfortable. I am fairly certain I could squat more, but I can't get it over my head. I am hoping that Santa will bring a weighted vest or a squat rack this year.

I limit my overhead lift to 45#, and add a weight vest for more poundage.

I did get some squat stands, so that will increase the amount I can lift.

My squat weight more than doubles that which i can safely lift over my head..

Im looking to get a squat rack in the future with a olympic BB..

Have you tried doing the squats "deadlift style"??

It's like a "clean deadlift" I call them.. you keep the BB on the floor and deadlift it (but bending your knees and re-placing the bar back on the floor).. so its not a stiff legged DL or anything.. you can do sumo's this way too.. still can't do the same weight as when I squat, but you can still handle more..

What you just described is the standard deadlift. You should be able to deadlift more than you can squat.

Cathe usually does stiff-legged deads in her videos.

That's a true deadlift, and a good sub for squats, since it hits many muscle groups.

I lift about 45 pounds and feel safe with that. If I decide to go heavier (which should be soon) I'll use the 10# weight vest. Same as Kathryn.
