How did you go about choosing a pediatrician?

I have to do this and it's making me crazy! I have one family member down in my area with children so I am going to ask her who she uses...if her pediatrician is in my health plan than I'm pretty much set as I trust her judgement completely! But if not, then what???

I would ask my ob for reccomendations but he is about 30 minutes north of me (where I used to live) and will probably only know of docs in that area. I'd really prefer the pediatrician be closer to me.

I looked up the pediatricians in my area that are in our health plan and the list is enormous!!!!

HELP!!!

Have a great work out!

Hi Wendy! I asked around at work and when everyone kept saying the same dr's name, I knew I couldn't go wrong. You know what is strange though, they only take newborn patients. I wonder why! They don't accept anyone who is not a newborn. I guess they like to be with them from the start? Good luck!

Jen,

I guess that is a good thing in a way, huh? I'm sure there are plenty of docs out there who accept new patients at older ages but I guess this doc prefers to be there from the beginning and it's his right to make that call.

Unfortunately my job is even farther away and no one that works there is local to me. ;(

Thanks for responding though!:)

Have a great work out!

When Gabe was an infant I chose the ped that my cousin worked for. She could not say enough nice things about her and she was right. But then she moved to WI and my health care plan assigned us to a different ped who I did not care for at all. We were moving so I asked DH's cousin who she uses and she highly recommended her daughter's ped. He is awesome. He is older so I hope that he doesn't retire soon b/c I would like to use him for this baby as well.

well unfortunately for me i didn't have anyone that i could get a recommendation from. nobody at my job had children and everyone else i knew lived far away. so i had to go at it blind. i set up appointments with them and had "interviews" with several pediatricians. i went with my gut and really lucked up, i found a great one! i recently had to to do it all over again because we relocated to another state. i got lucky again and love, love, love my pediatrician i will continue with them for my baby as well.
good luck!
