Hot Flashes...

Lately I seem to getting hot flashes...is this a normal side effect of pregnancy? I have never heard of it happening to anyone but considering how whacked out my hormones probably are right now, I'm not really alarmed by it either...

Have a great work out!

I had it with both pregnancies. It would drive my husband crazy at night because I'd be throwing the blanket off then pull it all back on. My ob said your body is acting as a furnace for the baby to keep the baby warm. Who knows?? :)

Lisa

same with me.
it was crazy my son was born in dec. and i couldn't even wear a coat i was so hot. i also slept with the windows open during the winter...imagine how crazy that drove dh. he's happy this time around the baby is due in the summer...LOL

Yeah. "Normal" LOL! I get very hot at night. I'm not sure if it's the classic "hot flash" that people talk about, but it's definitely unusual for me.

Wendy, did you ever read "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine?

Nope, can't say I have. Is it on the "suggested reading list" for a pregnant woman?

Have a great work out!

Oh yeah! It's a fun read, not a medical one. Vicki basically tells you in a fun way about her personal pregnancy experiences (4 kids), and those of her friends. She commented on the hot flashes a lot. It's a casual, fun read and at this stage of your pregnancy you will probably find yourself relating to a lot of what she says. It's about the informal side of pregnancy that the medical community doesn't address. If you're looking for something fun to read, I recommend you pick it up.

Cheers,
Sandra

i would recommend all her books. i have read and enjoyed them all. i love the fact that she comes from a mother's prospective rather than a know-it-all "professional". you will definitely enjoy them...

Count me as another one who has hot flashes, even with my first! At night I get really hot. Thank goodness DH loves the cold temperatures. He could live in Alaska and be perfectly happy. The colder the better.

I second the recommendation for the girlfriends guide. After reading all the serious books, it was a hoot!

I also had the hot flashes when I was pg w/my son. It was awful. On with the covers, off with the covers. This pg I do get hot but now like before.

See Wendy you are normal. :)

Normal is good. :)

Only difference is that all of you seem to get them during the night in bed...I don't...I get them most often in the mornings or evenings while I'm sittin around at home and suddenly I'm sweatin like a pig for no apparent reason!
lol

Have a great work out!

When I was pregnant with DS I would have hot flashes during the day too. Sorry I forgot to mention them. I remember one time during the middle of spring it being about 60 degrees outside but to me it felt more like 100. I never could get cool. My office always felt warm to me too, but if you know the people I work with you would know that it is actually very cold. Luckily I had DS in June so I did not have to carry him all summer long. That is the only thing I am dreading this time around.

I originally was going to try to get pregnant starting in Nov 04 which would mean I would have to carry in to August regardless. When we decided to try earlier I ended up being very relieved that I wouldn't be carrying through the summer...

Have a great work out!

Wendy when is your EDD? I think I calculated May 13. I remember being relieved when DS was born in June. It was still hot, but not too bad like in August or the end of September when the humidity is worse than the heat. There should be really nice weather then. Hopefully it won't begin to get too hot so if you want you can take the baby for a walk. I'm really looking forward to doing that again with this little one. I just can't believe you are already 29 weeks along. Before too long you will start going to the ObGyn every 2 weeks. May will be here before you know it. I'm really looking forward to the first week of May so I can have my ultrasound and officially be 1/2 way through my pregnancy. Boy I am just wishing my life away aren't I?

Hi Kristi,

My EDD is May 19th...you were close! :)

I find myself wishing away my pregnancy myself so don't feel bad! I do make sure that I ENJOY it in between though! lol :+ Seems as soon as I hit one "milestone" I am lookin' down the road for the next one to come along! It's the excitement I guess...the closer it gets, the more and more impatient I get about wanting to see my son...I'm so curious as what he is going to look like, his personality, etc...I just can't wait!!!

Yeah, hopefully after I deliver I will be able to take advantage of some nice weather outdoors with him before it gets too hot(for BOTH of us!).

I didn't believe anyone at first but everyone said the pregnancy really will go by fast and let me tell you...IT HAS! The first trimester seemed long but I think that is because that's when everyone feels the most run down and/or sick...but once you recup from that, it really just flies by!

Have a great work out!

You are right about pregnancy going by fast. I think the first trimester has always felt so slow for me because #1 a mother is always worried about miscarriage, #2 fatigue and sickness, like you stated, and #3 there aren't any outward signs to show that you are pregnant. At least in the 2nd and 3rd trimester you can actually feel and look pregnant. Not to mention the baby is moving quite a bit and letting us know that he/she is okay in there. More reassurance for us. I am actually surprised that the 1st trimester is close to coming to an end for me.

I remember being sooo afraid of an m/c...I would question EVERY LITTLE THING I did in the beginning, wondering if it would harm the baby and increase my chance of an m/c....

I also remember not being able to wait until I was "showing" and being so excited to go maternity clothes shopping even though I thought the clothes would be horrid looking! lol (and I have actually found them to be quite the opposite!)

Have a great work out!
