Holiday Stress And/Or Overtraining

JT

Cathlete
Hello Friends of the Forum.

Is is Holiday Stress or Tired from Overtraining? Yesterday, I did Butt & Gutts and today, I TRIED BMX2 and didn't make it through the first combo and sat out the rest. Last week, I did fine with Gin Miller. Awhile ago, I was watching BMX2 and couldn't believe I did the routine in full the last time.
It was a few weeks ago, I posted on the same subject. Is anyone else gong through the same thing?

Thanks for your wisdom in advance.

Jen, I find I always feel a little burned out this time of year. I pushed myself through P90x chest and back today, and didn't do the number of pushups I normally do. Don't know if it's Xmas and being busy or overtraining. Either way, it possible for you to take a few days off?

Sparrow,
Yes, it is physcially to take a few days off but mentally, I want to be back into it. It's a bummer when my stress reliever is causing me stress. So, you feeling a little burned out too? It could be that time of year, like you mentioned.
Thanks for your support and time.

Well, for one thing, I wouldn't be trying BM2 the day after Butts and Guts. That's a lot of leg work two days in a row!

I think everyone is burned out at this time of year. There's so much extra going on and us women tend to shoulder most of the burden of shopping, cooking, baking, organizing social events, etc. etc.

I would be good to yourself and let yourself take it a little easy in light of all the extra "stuff" we have to deal with!

:)

I'm not going through it now, but I certainly have before. I figured, hey if I can get throught this workout twice, why won't I always be able to do it? As Cathe has said herself, every day is different. When I go through phases like you're going through, I just tell myself to get through 15 minutes. When I get there, if I can push on to 30, I go for it. I then continue on...sometimes I make it to the end, sometimes I don't. Having a goal of "doing the entire thing" sometimes just isn't feasible, so giving yourself smaller goals takes the stress away. (and keeps you from beating yourself up!)

Just know that this might not be a good time to do what you normally do. Forgive yourself. You've done those workouts before, and you'll do them again. Just maybe not today!

Te Te, great advice.

Sometimes I think it is hard for we dedicated fitness people to remember that the wellness road is a long one, and there is no need to sprint down it every single day. Some days we sprint, some days we walk and other days we just crawl on our hands and knees, begging for mercy!

Jennifer, try to keep in mind as well that if you really are burned out or overtraining, you won't get all you can out of your workouts, if you keep pushing. A couple of days of active rest or total rest will bring you back to your best effort.

I am having a week like this. 10 hr days, tired and i have been dragging myself to w/o. I have had a lousy w/o week. I am also crabby......I only got 4 good days in this week and i usually do 6.

I made myself do MMax last night. Then today. I did abs 1st, usually a breeze. I had to pause. Then LIC cardio blast and 10 min I almost quit. I made it through, but it was tough today, way harder then other times.
I think it is the xtra work , shopping, cooking and just trying to get through the holidays... Crazy shopping, just plain stressful.

Thank you. It is reassuring that I'm not alone (again). There is a good reason why the New Year is a new beginning for fitness cause of Holiday burnout. The best thing for me, to try to do, is not push myself and not pressure myself into doing it all. And, reading the posts, I get excited about getting back into it and only to find myself disappointed for not being able to do it.
Hopefully, sometime in Jan07, you'll see a cheerful post that I'm back!!

Thanks again.
