holiday eating

I am curious as to how you guys eat during the holidays. I am proud to say that I've kept my eating this holiday under control, not giving into the temptations of baked goods and candy at work, etc. Does anyone have a method when they know they're going to a party or Christmas dinner, etc, like eating lighter or different foods during the day to give yourself room to indulge a bit in less healthful fare at the party? I try to eat lots of high fiber foods throughout the day, like beans and legumes, high fiber cereal and fruit, soy nuts, etc. One of my faves is half a cup of black or great northern beans mashed on whole grain bread with a slice of low fat soy cheese, spinach, and tomato. It's so tasty! And gives lots of fiber. And kashi go lean cereal is great topped with banana and blackberries/blueberries and soy milk. It gives 10 gms of fiber and 8 gms of protein per serving! (3/4 cup). I'd love to hear anyone else's eating habits, meal ideas/suggestions, etc... thanks and have a happy and healthy holiday!

I yo-yo between 120-130 and I bet you can guess where I am right now.

I (know that the clean eating will come January 1st, and atleast I am still exercising. Infact I had a serving of Cathe this morining. If I do see the scale go above my forbidden 130, then I will watch what I eat the next few days (yes, I weigh daily during this time of year). http://www.debsgifs.com/random1/gifs2/runner1.gif

RE: Control - what is that?

I have pretty much decided to start worrying about holiday eating on the 27th and go from there. Until then, I will eat and drink whatever I please and have no guilt. (yeah right but it sounds fun).

I've been so good for 2 years. This year, I haven't been. I was pretty proud of myself until I hit Thursday. Every other cube had goodies and I was staying away from them, until the chex mix was left at my desk as a gift. That blew it for me. Yesterday, I got it back under control but only after almost eating myself sick on cookies. If you're not used to eating cookies, believe me, it doesn't take much before your stomach gets very sour and upset. Tomorrow, Dec 25th, is a different story. I'm cooking so I'm controling what is being served, but I'm not going to journal, just listen to the old body.

Just my experiences.

Keta. :D

I don't worry too much about Christmas eating. Every year, I know there's gonna be yummy candies, cookies, pies etc between my office, friends houses, family etc... I just keep running and lifting weights with Cathe, and I don't obsess about the goodies. I eat very healthy all year, so I enjoy myself Christmas week. I choose turkey over ham, I eat lots of veggies & beans... and I do indulge. Hey, life's too short not to enjoy chocolate!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

wow---you have got some kind of willpower. christmas is the one time of year where i indulge without guilt. for the most part, i eat healthy the rest of the year (a few exceptions--birthdays, easter, etc.) i, like some of the other posters, will get back on track after christmas or the new year. i have been religious about keeping up w/my workouts and have been doing a bit more interval/higher intensity tapes. ENJOY. suzanne

It's all about planning, and getting your priorities straight. I don't do much different, and still try to allow only one "free" day per week. I'm keeping real good food diaries and planning the exercise around my work schedule.

I don't have to face a lot of junk food at work, so I'm lucky there. Also, I know I can't eat sugar during the day or I get sleepy and disoriented, so I just don't eat it. This week I have planned to allow 2 "free" days (today and Saturday) because of the holiday, BUT I will exercise more as a result. Then I get right back on the wagon Sunday. NO GUILT WHATSOEVER!!!!!

Weigh-ins are once or twice a week, because I don't like surprises.

Well, I'm off to a truck stop buffet (Gulliver's, Deb H) and then I'll come back and eat candy and other stuff. http://plaudersmilies.de/xmas/kamin.gif
