Hip Replacement-So far, so good!

Hi guys,

I am out of the hospital after three days. The nurses and docs said I was their "star patient". I was up and walking all over the place on day 2. Thank god I am good shape going into this surgery!
The hip replacement surgery went well, but yep, it hurts like hell. I am walking with a walker, and do my first session with my physical therapist today. My lower body is so swollen-I actually have those "child-bearing hips" going on. It should only last a few weeks thank god. And I have to wear these Teds hose, they are thigh high white stockings-ugh. But they prevent blood clots.
They have me on Lortabs, an antibiotic and Tramadol for the next few months, and even though I hate painkillers, believe me, they have their rightful place. I am sleepy most of the time and my appetite is nonexistent, have been eating melons and tomato soup with saltines.
I miss posting and talking to others here on the the forums, so I will be lurking and posting when I have the energy:)
Oh, I love the newer pics on the blog, how exciting to see the new outfits (I actually like the simplicity of them)the navy blue are my faves. I cannot wait until I heal and am able to really workout with Cathe and the girls again. As it stands, I cannot even ride a stationary bike until week 5. Patience, patience.:7

All my best to you all. Have a great workout week.

tneah, thanks so much for keeping us updated. I've been thinking and praying about you. I'm happy the surgery went well and hope the recovery is rapid and uneventful. Have fun with the physical therapist.

Hi tneah! Thanks so much for posting. I'm so glad to hear that everything went well. I had no doubt you would be the star patient. Now, as star patient, you need to be patient ;) and let yourself heal. Do everything the doc and PT tells you to and take it slow. You have the rest of your life to workout, and a few weeks won't make any difference. :D

So happy to hear from you!

Tneah, I've been thinking about you. Thanks for the update. You sound so upbeat and perky:) . Your positive, optimistic attitude will serve you well in your recovery. good luck with your PT and keep us posted on your progress.

tneah,

I didn't know that you were having a hip replacement. I log on enough that I should have known. I am glad that you are doing so well.

The high white stockings sound unappealing. I am looking at getting a hip replacement myself. I just don't know when that will be. I just found out about 18 months ago that I have two bone spurs on the front and the back of my hip bone (Left side). I do not have any pain with it at all, that is the good thing. I just do not have the in and out movement with it. The doctor said that I should be in lots of pain.

Keep us posted and let us know how quickly you recover. How long was the surgery?

Cheryl
