Are there any Cathe workouts that can be made into HIIT workouts? i was thinking that the blast only premix on the Imax workouts would be good Hiit workouts. any other suggestions?

true HITT cannot be sustained for more than 20 mintues b/c it is that intense. I think that Imax 2 and 3 are more interval based since the workouts are almost an hour in length. However, i think that if you just did the premix of the first half of the Imax's and really went all out, it would be a HITT workout. You would have to push yourself to almost puke mode.

Wait--HIIT = high intensity interval workouts. The IMAXs are HIIT.

I think just doing the blasts would not be HIIT b/c there wouldn't be any intervals. They'd just be HI, as in high intensity. SUPER DUPER high intensity.

True HITT cannot last longer than 15 or 20 minutes. The IMAXs are way longer than that. They are definately intense intervals but not ture HITT. True HITT incorporates short bursts of all out effort that one can only perform for between 15-30seconds. Anyone else want to chime in on this? I'm definately not an expert by any means but i have done a lot of reading about HITT.

Tabatas are a great example of HIIT. :) You do 20 seconds of all out work followed by only 10 seconds of rest, and then repeat. You can do a tabata for only 4 minutes (I have been cooked and have barely made it through only 4 minutes!) or up to 20 minutes. You can set your TM on a hill at a fast run (10mph maybe) and run for 20 seconds, step off for 10 and then hop back on. I have done tabatas with slam balls, jump thrusts, air squats and heavy kb swings. The best exercises to use for HIIT are either running or exercises that use your entire body.

Hiit Workouts

There really are not any firm time limits for a HiiT workout. A HiiT workout simply means that you alternate a high intensity exercise called a rep with a low intensity exercise called the interval. Most HiiT routines use anywhere from 6 to 8 reps alternating with 6 to 8 Intervals.

Though there are no time limits for a HiiT workout you will find that the more intense the exercise is the shorter the time must be doing the High Intensity (Rep) exercise. In Shock Cardio Cathe will use three different ratios of high intensity to low intensity exercises to give you three different types of Hiit workouts.

I'll second Melissa's suggestion for tabata as a great form of HiiT. I do it in a 8-minute segment, and here is what I do - though you can choose just about anything as long as you go all out in the 20 seconds. I rotate these exercises.

Put on my 10-lb Cathe vest and keep it on throughout.
1. Using 8-lb dumbells do DEEP squat jumps and on the jump up push those bells high up. Keep them by the shoulders on the squat down.
2. 2-handed kettlebell swings with my 20-lb k'bell
3. Jump up/jump down (like in plyo legs dvds) onto the 12" step.

I use this tabata countdown clock:
http://www.beach-fitness.com/tabata/ and set it for 16 rounds. Totally cooked by the end. And it's only 8 minutes.
