I did not order Hi/Lo Medball. I used to be crazy about hi/lo, dance and step from the 80's all the way until the mid 90's. For a long time it was all I did by way of workouts. Not anymore. If I want cardio now, I get out Cardio Coach or iTrain on my iPod and run on the treadmill. Or elliptical. For a change of pace I will do Kickbox provided there is zero shimmying, or hip-shaking mixed in.
Tracey sent me Hi/Lo Medball because I did the artwork for the covers for her when she could not find a professional who could finish it within schedule.
So I took it out this morning and put it in the DVD player and decided I may as well try it.
What a HAPPY workout this is!
Happy is the best adjective I can find to describe it. The music, the moves, the mood are so full of joy. Tracey is at her vivacious best. She is radiant and completely in her element. Barbie is the cutest. Even normally no-nonsense Jill gets swept up in the mood.
The choreo is simple to pick up but still ultra-fun. It is a zero-dread, swinging, party of a workout. I shimmied and shook my hips like I was twenty years old again in the warm up. The entire workout seems like a flashback to old favorites, but updated for the current times. Nothing feels dated. Just the best feeling of deja-vu with some fresh twists thrown in. The second combo had no hip shaking but the most wonderful Flashdance based routine at varying tempo. Then the workout switched to kick-box...not fighting-style..but FUN kick-box. There was a bit of Latin-dancing flavor in one combo and a delightful medball combo too. Even the floor medball carries the let's have fun, let's do something old, but let's make it new mood.
The music is the best I've heard on a workout video in a long, long time. Every song is a recognizable chart buster.
The production quality unfortunately is not the best (I did the covers after all
). The video is jerky at times and some of the audio in places is lost. But that did not seem to matter at all. The fun outshines everything.
I hope Tracey makes more like this. Next time I am pre-ordering.
