Hey there all you MT's ;-)

Hi to all of you that are into transcribing.
Just an update to say I'm ready for Chapter 5... I want to tell you that my hat is off to you like ....Big time! If I would see you on the street, I would give you a great big SALUTE!
Man, how do you do this? My myocarpals have never typed so much in my life. Thank goodness for the Slow and Heavy Series that exercises those carpals and the metacarpal bones. }( Yea, Cathe!
See, I learned one thing all ready. LOL

Having problems with my Wave Media player. I'm to be typing the terms as I hear them on the CD and it gets to the 3rd chapter, and locks up my entire computer. Can't figure out what is wrong at the presnet time. ??
I have plenty to do in the meantime as I still can't type all the way through without a mistake. I had the hardest time with electroencephalogram and put electroencepholography after it. And I haven't got to the dictation part yet.

Better keep up my Cathe S&H series and make those carpals as strong as I can. I don't want to go down their tunnel and have a syndrom. }(

Sounds like you're doing great Wanda. I received a bit of news from my employment this week. Eventually, have no idea when, could be weeks or could be months, our hospital is turning all the transcriptionists over to a transcription agency. They are supposed to hire all of us to work and do the same work we're doing now. Hopefully this is true. It should be really interesting to see what is going to happen and how this transfer will take place. We're all thinking it will be done gradually as there are hundreds of us to transfer over. I've worked for this same hospital for 8 years and now I'll be working for an agency. I have worked for an agency in the past and hopefully everything will go smoothly. It is just going to be weird not working for the hospital anymore.

And I totally understand about the metacarpals. I actually let my wrists rest on my keyboard which is not the correct way to type, but it has helped me over the years. Whenver I tried to keep them lifted, I always get pain. Letting them rest eliminates the pain. And yes I too have always wondered if weight training helps these bones and muscles as I've never had a problem with carpal tunnel syndrome (knocking on wood).

Hi Kelley,
I wonder why the move for the hospital to start working with an agency? Do you suppose it would be more cost effective for them? Will you be able to freelance while working for the agency? I ask because a friend of mine is working for a lady who works for the agency who gets the jobs. So my friend is at the bottom end of the totem pole, and is stuck with a 3 year contract.
She is sorry that she didn't go to school, but yet she is gaining experience interning. ???

Also my school matey and I are tossing back and forth working for an agency or freelancing? Yeah, right...just on chapter 5 and wondering about jobs! LOL My Dad would say I have the cart before the mule. hahha

I'm sure we can freelance if we want to. I choose not to. For several years I worked anywhere from 50-60 and sometimes 70 hours per week. I no longer need to do that and I choose not to do that.

Yes, the reason for the change is costs. Our hospital is always a little behind on new technology for transcription. They think it will be more cost effective to turn us all over to the agency rather than try to upgrade the system themselves.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to this as I'm a person who gets motivated by change. My friend who also works for the same hospital I work for, however, is not very happy. She is a person who lets things get to her and she worries about everything. I just always just try to go with the flow and see what happens. I won't worry about it until they give me something to worry about and even then I probably won't worry. I'll just take action and fix whatever needs fixing. :D
