Hey, ice cream lovers!

I've been trying to find a way to break my addiction to ice cream, and trying to eat less sugar and less aspartame.

Today I bought a bag of frozen blueberries, a container of non-fat yogurt and some Splenda sweetener. When I mixed the yogurt with the sweet frozen blueberries, it was so naturally sweet and delicious, I didn't even need the sweetener. The mixture was very cold (I did not thaw the blueberries) and very sweet like ice cream, but was packed with protein, calcium and vitamin C. It was absolutely delicious :9 and didn't require any preparation. Just wanted to share my new recipe!

Sounds great! Here's a similar one:

5 frozen strawberries or any other fruit
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup cottage cheese
combine in blender, add a pinch or two of Crystal Light dry drink mix and blend. Love this one.

I also recently discovered Healthy Choice no sugar added low fat fudge bars. OMG! 1.5 gms fat, 90 calories. They are incredible! I could live on these!

Blender? LOL! I don't own one, and if I did I wouldn't be willing to use it because it has to be washed! But I'm sure the results taste great. :) I'll save your recipe in case someday I use my kitchen.

Now, about the Healthy Choice bars: I haven't seen them in the stores near me yet, but look closely at the ingredients. If the bar is not made of sugar, what is it made of? The "no sugar added" products often contain sorbitol or manitol, which often don't agree with the human digestive system. Compared to those ingredients, sugar is a health food. I regret having to say that about something you love. :-( I hope the fudge bars don't contain those ingredients! (But if they do, you might want to try switching to fudge bars made of sugar?) I think all the Healthy Choice stuff is yummy-delicious!!!

Nancy,
Stop, you're killing me! I know, I know, sorbitol. I can't help it. I neeeed the fudge bars. They call to me from the fridge. I eat one per day guilt free. Here's my genius logic: my former diet consisted mainly of Virginia Slims Menthol Lights and diet Coke, so I'm gonna cope with a little fake sweetener. If I knew how to make a smiley there would be one right here->!

Hey Nancy...

...or should I say Dr.Nancy - LOL,

I thought I was the only one too lazy to wash the blender!

I love ice cream, but can't eat the sugar substitutes because I'm nursing. I love Edy's fat-free frozen yogurt - it's low-cal, fortified with calcium and tastes too good!!

Dawn,

LOL! You sure have improved over Virginia Slims (I guess menthol is a food group :) )and diet Coke!! I know what you mean, I used to have the same diet. If the sweetener doesn't bother you, then it's not a problem. One per day should not have any effect. The problem with me is I have to eat the whole box of fudge bars!

RE: Hey Nancy...

Well, this also involves the blender, but I'm posting it anyway for anyone who may be willing to use theirs! I break very ripe bananas into bite-size pieces and freeze them. Then use 4-5 pieces in the blender with soy milk, supplements or whatever. It really makes a sweet and creamy shake. My daughter loves them. I never liked ice cream enough to be tempted by it, but she does and she finds this to be a delicious ice-cream replacement.

RE: Hey Nancy...

Well, this recipe requires an icecream maker (I have a Donvier - not expensive at all!) Dump two containers of fruit yogurt into the icecream maker - crank handle occasionally for 20 minutes or so. Eat.

No one who eats this believes it's so simple to make because it's so delicious! You can also use orange juice instead.
