help with subbing leg work

HellO!
I have a question about possible substitutions for
squats, lunges, and deadlifts.

I have a back injury I've been nursing for a year. It's the low back -- L5/L4 vertebrae, but my doctor thinks it's a joint, not the disc, in that area that's causing pain.

So -- bending over (for deadlifts) sometimes hurts; I feel soreness sometimes after doing squats and lunges.
I can do most other exercises.

Now, I know when NOT to work out or do the work. But if I'm at home working with one of your videos, do you have any recommendations for substitutions where I could work these muscles from the floor?

Hope that's at least somewhat clear.

Thanks a million,

Laura

Hi Laura! My first suggestion is to ask your doctor for exercises. He may refer you to a physical therapist who could work with you to strengthen these muscles without aggrivating your discs.

In any case, deadlifts focus on hamstrings and lower back. Floor substitutions would be supermans and heel presses into the step (heel presses used in floorwork from PS Legs and Abs). For squats and lunges, it is almost impossible to match the power those moves generate to the legs with floor exercises. Do you by chance have a home gym multi purpose unit? I could offer suggestions with this unit.
