Help with Strain!?

For Cathe or Anyone ...

The last two days, I've noticed a tight feeling on the back and very bottom of my right leg, where the calf meets the ankle. I'm thinking this would be my achilles?, but I'm not sure? It's not excrutiating, however when I was doing Rythmic Step this morning, it felt really tight and slightly sore. Have I somehow strained this area, and would that be my achilles that I feel aching? How exactly should I treat this strain? I hate the idea of taking a few days off to nurse it because I know I'll miss my cardio, however I don't want to do more damage by trying to work through it if I do need to take a couple rest days?

Any insight/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks! :)

Hi Nicole! I actually just answered this earlier. Here is what I said..........treatment for the achilles tendon:

R.....rest it a few of days
I.....apply ice three times per day
C.....compress the area
E.....elevate the foot whenever possible

I had such an extremely bad case of it that it took 6 months of continuous therapy to bring it back. If you do the above RICE method for a brief period and come back slowly you should see a huge improvement. I would also suggest two advil 3 times per day when you are feeling pain. Include calf raises and one minute(per foot)of intense toe tapping three times per week too. This will strengthen the muscles relating to the achilles tendon.

I personally find that whenever mine flares up I take it easy for a couple of days and stretch the area really well. I also have little 4 ounce dixie cups of frozen water ready to go and rub one all over the achilles area until it melts away (one cup, three times per day).

Good Luck!

Thanks Cathe!!

After researching on the internet, I've been doing just the very things you suggested, and it's feeling better already! I plan on taking it easy (no impact) throughout the remainder of the week, and hope to get back to some resemblance of my beloved Cathe cardio early next week.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply!! Hope the boys are doing wonderfully!!
