Help with Nutrition Topic for Research Paper

Hi Everyone! I have to write a paper for my nutrition class and I can't think of a topic, I thought maybe this would be a good place to ask for help. It has to be 5 pages long. The professor didn't give us any other guidence other than it needs to be a nutrition related topic.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Jen

I'm not sure what level of schooling you are at, but why not discuss current nutrition trends (i.e. eating clean, raw food, Mediterranean diet, Paleolithic diet, no carb, high protein, etc) in a context of different societal cultures?

I work in an aging lab that looks at calorie restriction so I know there are tons of scientific papers on it. I went to a talk last year about how increasing protein intake stimulates one pathway that is thought to increase the chances of cancer (its a new theory but I think there are some big wholes in it actually...).

Oh boy, I think you may have really started something with that topic!

It's pretty new. The guy collaborates with our lab (he does what we do in model systems like yeast, cell culture, and mice in humans) and we got into a tense argument about it. But only time and research will tell I suppose...

I meant that the topic of high protein and whether it helps or hurts is pretty controversial around here and tends to get a lot of people excited.

How about researching the various iterations of government food guidelines (like the current food pyramid and its predecessors)?

How about the use of high fructose corn syrup and hidden trans fats in many processed products, you can research the history of their use and detrimental effects on the lipid profile, cardiac disease and diabetes. You can incorporate how the FDA is trying to limit their use being more successful with trans fats than HFCS.
Good Luck!
