i am suffering a very good deal of hip joint inflamation....it wakes me up at night with some weird feeling that is making me worry that i will have to stop doing what i do!!

The pain went away when i took a week and half off working out.

i am guessing it would be sqats and or lunges that are taxing the joint...I do ALOT of them with no weight.

I am wondering if i can add the weight and do less reps ...
Yesteday i did a forty lb barbell and maybe 3 sets of 10 sqats and the same with lunges...instead of 100 or more without weights

If i have to cut out sqats and lunges, can i go about working individual muscles away from the joint and get as good results while avoiding major stress to the joint?

I hate going to doctors, they never seem to be on target with me.
I am on an HMO plan and i dont get to choose going to a sports injury doc.

I am doing alot of stretching and yoga for the hips ... i dont know if i am pushing the limits or helping with the stretches.....

I understand one is not supposed to take pain killers after a workout.... i am told it negates some benefits of the workout.

I need anti inflamitory help ... i hear ginger is good..but how much? it hasnt helped me in casual dosages....
i wonder if anti oxidants will help ... green tea after a workout is supposed to be good... ginger greeen tea....

Thanks.

My dear Cinza, you may have to bite the old bullet and get thee to a doc. Some things are best not messed with.

Depending on the location of the pain, you might try this. My physical therapist had me do it for my low back pain which was at my S I joint on the left side.

When I would go to bed, I got a tennis ball and laid the ball under my back on the one spot where the pain was the most concentrated. I would kinda roll around gently on that spot. I would do this for about 15 minutes before going to sleep.

Also, heat helps me, too. But I could never keep a heating pad in the right spot when I was sleeping, so I resorted to laying ON TOP of my electric blanket. That seems to help too.

Don't worry. There's always another way to skin the cat, or work your muscles!

Hi Cinza !

I agree with Honeybunch. Seeing a doctor will
ensure that you are helping your body. Guessing is not a good idea, imo.

Good luck to you !!

Honeybunch is right

I know it's not what you want to hear, but Honeybunch is right. Navigating an HMO is tough, & you may have to see a sports med specialist outside the system. But, I have learned that if I squawk a lot, that I can usually get my HMO (Kaiser) to accomodate me.

If you actually have an inflammation, rest & an anti-inflamatory might be the best course of action until you see a medical professional.

I agree with HB

(As usual) --

Better safe than sorry, Cinza -- I'm one to talk since it took me months to decide to drag my sorry knee to a doctor, but I must admit that I should have done so sooner. I don't think joints are something we should mess around with.

Go see an orthopedist. If you're doing 100+ squats and lunges this could be nothing more than an overuse injury, but I'd let your doctor tell you that, and tell you what you can and can't do, what anti-inflammatories to take, etc.

Tell us what you find out. We'll be sending you cyber hugs. :)

LAST EDITED ON Jul-18-01 AT 03:09PM (Est)[p]thank you all...
i bumped into a trainer at my gym this mornging and asked her about my hips and she hauled me off to make an appointment with a physical therapist for monday!

i bet its over use .... my sculpting class does a solid 30 minutes with squats and lunges .... that could be several hundred hits on the hip joints each class two times a week.... thats not even discussing alsorts of torturous variations i like to tuck into the squats.

(Ruth, i am having my day of reckoning for all the evil i done you !!)

Thank you all again...

RE: I agree with HB

Hey, C...you know I want only the best for my evil lady!
I was going to yell at you until I read your 2nd post...glad you are going to a therapist...while you're there, mention your shoulder!
Ruth

RE: I agree with HB

thanks Ruth.
Last time i told anyone about my shoulder at the gym they got so cautious that they gave me instructions not to use more than 5 lbs weights!!
Yeah, right!!
