Help: High FSH Levels

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a few years now. Last year I miscarried at 12 weeks. We just saw a fertility doctor who told me that the odds of my conceiving are 5% because my FSH level was high (17). I am just wondering if anyone else has gone through this and still conceived.

I know what FSH is - it is follicle stimulating hormone - which you need in order to release an egg - the higher number could indicate you are starting to go through your change or something - maybe you should get a second opinion.

It seems since you conceived last year - you could still conceive now - your miscarriage had nothing to do with your FSH levels. Did you ever find a reason for the miscarriage?

If it is an ovulation thing, couldn't you take fertility drugs?

Hi Cheryl,
A high FSH level indicates that the quality of my eggs isn't very good. In my case (being 40 years old) the doctor basically said I have old eggs. I am going to get a second opinion soon. I was hoping to see if anyone else has been able to conceive after being told the same thing.

I would definitely get a second opinion - I had my last three children over the age of 40! I guess everyone is different. I was 41 with my 8th, 42 1/2 with my 9th, and 45 with my 10th. They are all very normal children - my eggs are old, too, but I could still conceive.

Let me know when you get a second opinion. I am very interested!

I actually make a joke about my tenth - he is a tow head - he has white blond hair (my only one) and I tell everyone it was because he came from an old egg that didn't have any pigment left in it.
