Help! - Family Vacation

I need some advice on how to be handle this situation...

I am going on vacation with my in laws whom I get along with really well. The problem is that they all (including my DH) can get by on eating just one or two meals a day and be totally fine. I don't want to feel crappy from not eating, but at the same time I don't want to be super demanding either when I am the only one who wants to eat. I have tried explaining to them on a previous vacation that I can't just skip lunch just because we are out doing something, but I just don't think they get it.

To add to my problem my BIL and nephew are deathly allergic to nuts, so packing a peanut butter sandwich in my purse is not an option.

Any suggestions on heathly meals I can put in my purse to take with me that doesn't include any nuts? or how else I could handle the situation?

Thanks!

Get some Balance Bars. They've nutritiously balanced (hence the name) and come in a variety of flavors. My favorite is Caramel Nut Blast (tastes like Snickers), but it sounds like that one won't work for you. They can be expensive, but they're worth it and you'll only need a week's worth.

These are all great ideas, but I guess I'm not sure why packing nuts in your purse is off limits if you're not the one with the allergy? I mean, do they stick their hands in there when you're not looking? :)

Pack some fruit, crackers, protein bars, granola bars, whatever you need to get by. I have some of the same issues, and I learned to just do what I have to do in order to stay healthy!

Noelle,

I'm just laughing because I can't imagine a vacation with my family without constant food! Your family sounds more like me, a few tablespoons of cottage cheese, and I'm good till dinner. But I love all the constant food when I'm with my family. When we stay at our vacation house in the Poconos, cocktail hour starts at 4 pm and lasts several hours. Out comes the homemade hummus and tabouli and salsa and cheeses and olives with crackers and pitas and on and on with wonderful wines. And that's after a gigantic lunch and humongous breakfast!

By the way, I rely on Lunabars and Larabars for quick energy during hectic work days when I can't stop for lunch, if that helps any.

Thanks everyone for all the good suggestions. I feel much better about this now. I think I'll take a trip to Whole Foods today and stock up on bars and other healthy snacks.

Marie - I confess to not knowing all that much about their allergies except that even if it somehow gets on their skin they can have a reaction. My nephew is only a year old so I'd just rather not take any chances.

Nancy - could I maybe go on vacation with your family? Sounds wonderful! I grew up in a family of grazers. The first time I went on vaction with DH's family I thought they were crazy for skipping meals. At least this time I will come prepared. My Father in law can make fun of me all he wants - I need to eat!

Thanks everyone!
