Hello There, Push-Up Weenies!

Soosan

Cathlete
I am in NJ visiting my parents and thought I'd start a little chat. Since the PW thread, I've been doing as many straight-leg push-ups as I can outside of a normal workout (every day or every other day), using A-Jock's advice of doing what I can, resting for a few seconds, then doing more. For over a year, the most I'd done was six, but now, after a week or so, I can do eight! Yippee!

When I visit my parents, I do only yoga because I don't want to bring all my fitness gear. This morning I did B. Kest's Vol. 3 ("Sweat") for the first time in a while and was AMAZED at how well I could do chaturangas (yoga push-ups) as well as all the straight-leg push-ups he does between up and down dog. I attribute this more to my recent strength-focused rotations rather than the week of extra push-ups.

Whatever it is, this weak-shouldered PW Ecto is happy!:)

How about you all? Anybody making push-up progress?

Well done Susan! I too have been trying to add pushups to my daily routine...not necessarily exercise routine...just when I think about them here at work I get up and try. Just did that as I read your post (and actually hadn't tried yet today) and was able to do 9. Okay eight and the nineth was a bit weak, it took a llooooonnnngggg time but I made it down and then up again. That surprised the heck out of me because I actually digressed a bit after our big discussion last week and was only able to do 5 on most days. I've been going heavier on my tricep exercises, plus adding some weighted tricep dips and working on my core every day. My arms are still the weak link though, that is where I fail. I get down but can't get back up again--no strength in the arms.

Way to go, Donna! Nine plus six is awesome!

My yoga workout was this morning. It is now 6:30 pm, and I just did a round of push-ups, but couldn't do more than fivex( . Maybe my upper body's still fried from my yoga workout...sigh.

Barbara, my parents live in West Milford, way up north on the border of NY State. As I was driving up here from Virginia yesterday, I passed the exit to Glassboro (I went to school there for two years before transferring to Rutgers) and thought "I wish I could squeeze in a Cathe visit!" My husband couldn't come and I brought my three kids so I think I'll have to wait till next time. My parents would watch everybody, but this visit will be pretty short. If I can work it in next time, I'll let you know. Maybe we could go together.
