Hello everyone

lynne12

Cathlete
I've been away from the boards for a while -very busy, VERY busy. It's me Lynnne - however, I've had to change my name for the boards to lynne12 because I forgot my password and my email address has changed. But its still me.

Glad to see everyone is doing well - I've missed you all!

I do have a question. the other day, I was working out in my gym on the hack squat machine and I guess I was pushing it too hard because when i finished my third set - my head was dizzy and I felt like I was going to throw up! I ran to the bathroom and hung my head over the toilet but didn't throw up. However, I remained dizzy and weak for a while. Needless to say - I stopped my workout and went home.

Question - how dangerous is that? someone told me it happens from time to time when lifting heavy and going hard. Any insight would be appreciated.:D

I have experienced some minor nausea after doing a heavy set of squats too. It's not unusual (although, I've never had to run to the bathroom thinking I would actually vomit), and there are different theories for why this happens. There are things you can do to prevent this from happening too. Check out this website and go to the section called "Doh! and Ouch", and click on the article titled "effluvia" - this will give you some helpful information on the uncomfortable phenomenon of weight-lifting nausea.

wow - that was a fast answer. thanks it answers the question. glad to know I'm not the only one. I've got to say, it was intense and I was so close to hurling! YUCK. Makes me scared to try again - but alas, I will.....}(

Oh goody, another gym rat! Welcome Lynne.

I used to train w/this college football player, & we'd superset squats, lunges & presses for three sets without taking a breath. It was a killer & I do remember it w/fondness & nostalgia. There were many joyous occasions of lightheadedness & potential vomiting.

Whenever this occurred we just repeated our favorite Arnold phrase over & over: "I have no fear of fainting in the gym." :p

LOL! Ok - actually after it happened and I felt better, I do have to say that I was kinda proud ( in a sick kind of way ) that I'd pushed myself to the point of vomiting! I must be crazy & yes, I've become quite the gym rat! As long as its not dangerous, I guess I shouldn't worry right?
