Healthy Hedonists 2/20: not dead, just busy living!

Kel and Nancy (and everyone else):

Wow, Kel - that is a stretch of bad luck, for sure... You have a very positive attitude, though! That's one of wine's best curative powers, right?:7 :9

I'm thinking that, since this truly is a check-in of like-minded women, that we can expand our chats to include not just workouts and large, happily hedonistic living, but other things that go into the picture. All the many elements of living a fine life that gives you joy and a reason to not only get out of bed, but to get out of bed with a smile!

So, what if anything, are you ladies giving up for Lent?

RE: Healthy Hedonists 2/20: not dead, just busy living...

Hi again Charlotte, Nancy... & everyone who follows!

First, I want to say that I'm glad this check-in hasn't gone to the wayside & I hope we can keep it up & I hope our group will grow too. I also like today's thread title... "busy living"... that's great!

Yes, there are always some rough spots in life & that's to be expected but I try to keep my attitude positive & try to look at any situation from the best perspective. Hey, I don't always succeed but I try. And yes, wine works wonders in almost any situation!

I think it's a great idea to expand the parameters of this check-in too. It shouldn't be limited to workouts, food, & drink but anything at all that brings us the greatest pleasure in our life on a day to day basis. Of course, that does tend to revolve around fitness & healthy eating for us because that's how we generally conduct our lives. But in addition to our love of fitness, food, & drink, there's a whole lot more that brings each of us pleasure. Sometimes, it's just something small & meaningful that warms your heart. Other times, there is a big event or achievement. But share them all! It could be anything on any given day & that's the great thing about hedonism. It can mean almost anything to anybody, although it still tends to be generally the same for everyone. For instance, I don't have children & don't plan/want to have any but I still love kids & hearing about children. So please share because if it brings one person joy, I expect it will bring others happiness too. So that's my expansion on Charlotte's comment & I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks too.

The biggest pleasure in my life at the moment is our new doggie, Skippy. He's very sweet, smart, & energetic. And he's my avatar too. We adopted him on Friday & already love him to death! He's just starting to become adjusted to having a home & family of his own & his antics are hilarious. He's bringing us a lot of joy & laughter & we plan to give him the best life ever!

Well, I better go for now. I hope to see more people check in & I hope to see a lot of other ideas & insight into hedonism.

Have a great day & I'll check back later.

Cheers!:+

Kel

ETA: I usually don't give anything up for Lent but I'm still curious about everyone else too. Sorry I didn't answer that question before.

Kel et al:

Skippy is darling! I know you will enjoy him! Hmm, for Lent, I'm thinking about giving up the gratuitous glasses of wine that follow that first delicious glass. I refuse to give it up altogether. But it's only when I have #2 or #3 that eating too much or even eating dessert sounds like a good idea... know what I mean? Christine - what are you thinking?? You're strong as an Ox to give up wine for 45 days!!!

By the way, I found a Mark West Pinot that is really delicious and under $10. I usually do not enjoy wines under about $15 - it just seems that they suck if they are much less than that. But this is a keeper and a delicious house wine, daily drinker. (Drinking some right now:7 ). Check it out!

Hey Charlotte and ladies!

Thanks for resuscitating this check in! I know I’ve been so busy at work that I haven’t had a lot of time to check in.

Well, tonight is Fat Tuesday – and I’m going to be FAT. DH is cooking Indian food – chicken curry, curried chick peas, lentils and rice. And I’m enjoying a fabulous Chardonnay (Beringer Napa Valley – the Founder’s Estate SUCKS! But the Napa Valley is wonderful – as is the merlot). It’s a medium priced wine – in the $16-$20 range (I can find it on sale for less). But red wine and Indian food is an instant recipe for heart burn and indigestion – just in case you wanted to know.

Kel – you are a wonderfully well balanced person. I love you attitude. I also love you idea to expand the check in. I think it’s a wonderful thing to remember the good in the day, no matter how small. Your dog Skippy is just adorable!! He’s looks so bright eyes and eager – what a fun guy! And I love hearing people who just want their dog to have a wonderful life. You’ll do well by him. Do you know what kind of dog he is? He looks to have a little Aussie in him (my doggie is an Aussie) and if he does – you have yourself a wonderful companion – the brains of a Border Collie with the heart and soul of a golden. Even if he's not - he looks like a simply wonderful dog. He's sooo cute. Here’s my boy at his doggie school graduation:

Charlotte – I’m chuckling because the no meat will last through the end of Lent. The no wine will very quickly become “No wine during the week”.

My good for the day was that I made someone else’s day. We have a position open in my company that I think a friend of mine would be perfect for. She’s a hard worker and very detail oriented and is wasted at her current job. So I called her to tell her to send me her resume and she was just thrilled. It made me happy that I could at least give her something to look forward to.

Hi to everyone!
