Healthy Hedonists 1-22

Good morning all!

I feel a lean, clean week coming on... My body is just cycling over there on its own after several weeks (or more) of a little too much booze! It's lost its appeal for awhile. This happens with me. And I'm tweaking my workouts to eight day cycles of: 1) heavy weights w/cardio (Step Jump Pump, BMax, Circuit Max,Boot Camp), 2) pure cardio (IMAX, KPC, Intense Moves, Energy Sprint, kickbox, etc), 3) muscle endurance (ME, Tracey Staehle, Jari Love, Drill Max), 4) pure cardio, 5) heavy weights w/o cardio (Muscle Max, etc.), 6) pure cardio, 7) muscle endurance, 8)rest and massage. Repeat.

I just finished my big bowl of blue oatmeal (1/2 cup oats cooked with 1 cup soymilk, one chopped apple, cinnamon and 1/2 cup frozen blueberries). Did Intense Moves yesterday so will do Muscle Endurance today. Probably a sweet potatoe and a salad for lunch and black bean soup and salad for dinner. Enjoy your day and let us know what you have planned!!

Hi Charlotte! You've got quite a rotation planned & lots of healthy food too. Good for you! I know what you mean. We'd gotten into the habit of having a couple every night & more on the weekend. Now we're making it just an occasional or weekend thing & eating as healthy as possible & drinking lots of water during the week. I feel much better, physically, mentally, & emotionally when I keep it within reason. But I also love to splurge so I guess I just need the right balance in order to achieve just the right amount of hedonistic pleasure.

My DH was late getting home Friday so I popped in a yoga DVD & thoroughly enjoyed it. Then, we went out & I had vegetarian lasagna, topped off with a nice martini. We also stopped at a local bar to see some live music. Quite a fun evening filled with all kinds of my favorite hedonistic pleasures! We did some construction work on Saturday, so we started with a healthy breakfast (Kashi & OJ) & Subway for lunch, followed by a nice soak in the hot tub & a couple of filets with Sterling Pinot for supper. YUM! We slept in Sunday, got in the hot tub, went grocery shopping, & had a few beers while watching football. We also had baby back ribs, slow cooked in the oven, & a bottle of Chilean Camanere so we ended the weekend in true hedonstic form. As much as I look forward to cutting loose over the weekends, I probably look forward to working out & eating clean during the week even more (maybe...).

I increased the weight on my barbell last night (I don't have one that's easy to change - unfortunately) & did SJP warm up, weights/hi-lo premix, abs/planks, & cool down/stretch. That extra weight sure made a difference! For breakfast, I had yogurt, All Bran, & a banana followed by cottage cheese & fresh fruit a little later. So far, so good & looking forward to lots of hard workouts & clean meals this week.

Sorry I missed some of you over the weekend. I don't check in much from home.

Robin, I hate to hear your trip was cancelled & I hope your DH is feeling better.

Christine, Sorry the Pats lost but wow, what a game!

Debra, Happy belated 40th birthday! I hope we hear from you today & I hope you had a fabulous time in Savannah!

Hi to all who follow & wishing you a happy Monday.

Take care!

Kel

Kel, Charlotte and all to follow. Happy Hedonisticing! Sounds like nice weekends for you all. DH is feeling a bit better, but stayed home from work today. Have no fear, we will get our weekend outing done in a couple weeks. I know what you mean about the alcohol. I try to limit drinks to a couple on evenings when I don't have to get up and go to work the next day. Unfortunately, some meals just scream for a nice glass of wine, and once the bottle is open, well, it really needs to be finished, right? Tonight is a leftover meal. I have lots of stuff lurking in the frig that need to be eaten or tossed. Once again, I'm going to try to clean up the eating for the next couple weeks, at least until our get away. Today's workout is Boot Camp. My legs were really tired yesterday while doing rhythymic step, so I hope they make it through today's workout.

Kel was right about that game last night. Now I'm not sure who to cheer for in a couple weeks. I really like Peyton, but the Bears are kind of sentimental favorites.

Debra, I second Kel's belated happy birthday wish!

Hi Robin, Kel and Charlotte!

I was a no-show this weekend but when the family's home I don't like to spend time on-line. We had too much to do anyway. The plasma TV we bought, that took my DH a day and a half to install last weekend blew out on us on Thursday. So, it was back to Best Buy to return it and buy another one. We opted for the Panasonic (the other one was a HP) because we've always had luck with Panasonic equip. Another weekend was wasted installing the thing, but we did get to see the Patriots lose to the Colts, which made my DH very happy!

I also had a decadent weekend. Too much eat, drink and merriment! I'm looking forward to eating cleaner this week. We must all be on the same wavelength! This morning I had oatmeal mixed with peanut butter and a small amt of brown sugar. Very yummy! For lunch I had a lean pork chop left over from yesterday. I made pork chops in the crock pot. It was a very simple recipe. Just mix one can of low-fat cream of mushroom or chicken soup (I use chicken) with 1/4 cup of white wine and pour over lightly browned porkchops. Cook at low for 2.5 to 3 hours. Good comfort food without all the fat!

I don't know what I'm going to have for dinner tonight. For my workout today I did Jari's RTTC. I love this workout! I also love getting my workout over with in the morning. Some mornings I'm just not in the mood to sweat, but quite often when I save my workout for later it just never gets done. I think I'll do another Jari week. I know I was supposed to start a P90X rotation, but I'm just not in a Tony mood!

Oh yes! Happy belated birthday Debra!

Ahhh, I love coming here and hearing that I'm not the only one who has been over-indulging with the wine these past few weeks and wants to cut it back. DH and I are planning the M-R no wine, and Fri-Sun in limited quantities, but as Robin pointed out, some meals just cry for it, so it's not a hard and fast rule.

Charlotte - sounds like you have a fabulous rotation of workouts and eating planned! Good for you! Sometimes it feel hedonistic to cleanse the body as well. Nothing like variety to keep the spirit well!

Kel - Oh well, you win some, you lose some. And that was one heck of a game! Two teams very evenly matched! And even though I'm not a Colts fan (I'm from Baltimore - the home of the Original Colts) I do like and admire Peyton Manning. I'd hate to see him go with a SuperBowl bid. Glad you enjoyed yoga! I love a good yoga stretch. Who are you using?

Robin - I love your attitude! And now you have time to clean up your eating and feel great about yourself when you do go for your wonderfully hedonistic weekend! Enjoy!!

I'm another one who is "cleaning" up her act. Must be something going around with DH's as mine is sick, too. I made him chicken noodle soup last night. Had to run to the store to get a chicken, and I had to pick up dog food. So I handed the guy behind the counter a 20 pound bag of dog food. He handed it back - I had something in my right hand so I picked it up with my left and put it in the cart. Then I turned to see him staring at me. He said, "Wow, you're strong!" I didn't think much about it - after all I can do bicep curls with 20 pounds (okay - maybe 3 of them), but I use 20 pound weights for back work all the time. Funny how our perceptions change when we lift...

Have a fabulous day all!

LOL at Christine impressing the checkout guy! Your DH is much luckier than mine. Mine wanted soup, so I opened up the can for him.

Leslie! That's terrible about the TV blowing out on you! Those things ain't cheap either.

Leslie - we must have been posting at the same time! So sorry to hear about the TV! They are a major pain, aren't they? We have an LCD which gives us issues every now and again. It's a Sony.

Hi girls! Just thought I'd check back in & see what's going on. For lunch, I had some vegetable barley soup & green tea. I also just got finished with 1/2 wheat pita, Naturally More peanut butter, & grapes. I think we'll have a big salad for supper but I just wish I could fit in more yoga before "24" comes on!

Robin - I know what you mean about the wine... once the bottle is opened... well, you know. I also agree about the Bears because one of the guys on offense is a local boy that we've followed since high school & one of my co-workers is actually related to him too - Thomas Jones! It would be nice to see him win & come home to celebrate!

Leslie - So sorry about your t.v. but glad you got to catch the game anyway. That pork chop recipe sounds good & I bet it would be good with chicken breast too. The only Jari Love DVD I have is the original Get Ripped & I've never done it because it just doesn't look that inspiring, like Cathe. I guess I should give it a try though.

Christine - Sounds like we're all following the same plan. Like you, we're not following it too strictly either. After all, we are hedonists, right? The yoga DVD I did on Friday was Yoga Journal bending & twisting poses for flexibility. I have all the DVDs from Yoga Journal (except the pregnancy one) & I love them all! LOL at your story! I love it! I have 20# dumbbells too but I haven't started using them yet. I'm still using the 15 pounders but I hope to advance to 20# soon.

Hope you all have great evenings... be back tomorrow!

Kel
