Last March when I was pregnant for the first time, they told me to wait until near the end of my first trimester. Well, when I went in, they discovered (unbeknownst to me) that the baby had met with "fetal demise," and, a few days later, I endured miserable miscarriage. It would have been nice to have gotten attention before this point, as I was blithely going along thinking that I was pregnant. I did not have a D&C, but the miscarriage turned out to be fairly nasty and prolonged.
This morning, a year later, I took an HPT test, and it was positive. I called the docs, and they've scheduled two blood tests immediately--one for today and one for Friday. Because of my history and age, they want to make sure my HCG levels are increasing significantly over a 48-hour period. I feel more comfortable with this. They're going to monitor things a lot more closely. My doc said that they normally do close monitoring early in pregnancy only when a woman has had more than 2 miscarriages. I've only had one, but my age is a also a concern to them. So I think if there is some history there, they like to see you early.
Maybe you can have your family doctor do the test?
Sincerely,
Manmohini
