Has anyone used hand weights with the Kickbox workout?

I did the Kickbox with hand weights on and it was a great workout. I really feel it in my upper body today. The standing ab workout with the weights really worked my abs too! I feel like I got a total body workout. Anyone else tried this?
 
I haven't used handweights per se, but I have held on to the weighted metal circle things that hold the plates on the end of my barbell. (They probably have a name!) They about half a pound I imagine, maybe a little less. If I go heavier, I don't feel like I get a good recoil motion coming back on my punches or a nice sharp stop to my hooks or uppercuts. I especially feel the additional weight in my back muscles. I really concentrate on the recoil of a jab and contract the back when I come back. Not entirely sure if I should do this with a jab, but I do and it works for me. I don't feel this slight additional weight so much in the shoulders or abs, but I like to believe it helps with endurance. On the topic, I put these weights down when I do leg movements like squats or jumps into sidekicks just to give my hands a little break.--Jeanne
 
I have been using weighted gloves (usually 1#, sometimes with slower workouts 2#) with my kickbox workouts for quite a while, after I got my form down. I really like the added intensity.

By the way, this thread probably belongs in the "Video comments" or "Open Discussion" forums, since it's not a question to Cathe. I'm sure you'll get more responses if you repost it in one of those. ;-)
 
i have done kickboxing workouts for years. i never had the hand weights. that was until i ordered the turbo jam workouts. they came with the 2lb weight gloves. i gave them a try with KPC and it really made it intense. i highly recommend getting the gloves. once you have good form they really kick up the intensity level.
