Has anyone tried the BodyBugg

Hi everyone --

I was wondering if anybody out there has tried the BodyBugg or anything similar. It is the arm band they wear on The Biggest Loser to track calories burned, steps taken, etc....I am very interested in purchasing one for myself and one for my Dad for X-mas but I am totally on the fence. All the reviews look great but just wanted to check in with my Cathe friends!!

Thanks!!!

Hi -

I haven't tried it per se (had to return it because it runs on Java and my computer is wonky), but I am a trainer at 24 Hour Fitness and several of my clients own one.

There is a newer, sleeker version now and you get the display wristwatch for free and includes a 6 month subscription (our club is selling it for $249). The monthly subscription afterward is $10 or you can pay for 1 year for $100.

Personally, I hate the idea of paying for a subscription when there are so many free calorie counters available on-line. However, when used in conjunction with the Bodybugg armband, there are definite benefits to this program.

What I love about the Bodybugg is that it tracks (92% accuracy, similar to labratory results) your metabolism during ALL activities (except swimming - not waterproof) including sleeping. It really is an awsome device and has helped my clients stick to their goals.

To reiterate, this only calculates caloric EXPENDITURE. Everything you eat must be input manually.

I've had one for almost three years now and wear it when I need to lose some weight or am curious about how many calories activity / workout "X" burns. I found out that Leslie Sansone CAN be effective for days I'm not up to much else, for example.

I had a version 1 which wasn't compatible with the digital display, so upgraded this past summer. My DH wanted my old one as he was curious how many calories he was burning. He was able to establish his personal calorie burn based on lazing about, a day in the office, and a day with exercise which really helped him understand his food intake vs. output -- never having had a weight problem, he'd never had to deal with it. He rarely wears his bodybugg now, but did want to keep the annual membership for when he wants to check his rates again.

The display has been wonderful for me. I used to have to log-in to see where I stood. Now, the display screws onto either a watchband or a clip that I can put on my clothing and I can see how I'm doing whenever I'd like. I kind of wish I'd waited for this newer, less bulky model, but oh well.

I think that knowing my calorie output not only helps me stay active but, on the days I just don't feel like doing anything, it's really easy to adjust my intake. You can wear it all day, every day (like I do) or just to get "a feel" for what your BMR is (like my husband does), it's really up to you and your goals/needs.
