Cathlete
Morning Maniacs -

This morning I did Angie Miller's Strength and Core Fusion. Workout was 70" and I burned 381 calories. I don't really feel like I had a very good workout. I wasn't sure how heavy to go, as I'd never done this before and I think I went too light.

This was yet another high rep workout. I'm so sick of the market being flooded with high reps. Where are all the 6-8, 8-10 rep workouts? I usually do drop sets when doing high reps and have a better workout...but I didn't do that today. Sometimes I'll go heavier and split the reps up into 2 sets. I got this workout cuz it got good reviews at Collage and someone said Angie reminded them of Cathe. I don't get irritated very often by instructors, but this instructor talked and talked and talked. Made me nuts. If I do this again, I'll probably play my own music and go heavier. Live and learn. One light day won't kill me .....I suppose!

All of that being said, which Cathe workouts have the lowest rep counts?
or what do you ladies use when you want to do a low rep, heavy weight workout?

I just read an article in a fitness magazine last week about rep training and this new way of training where you do one set of a weight exercise in a high rep range and one in the 6-8 range....etc. It's supposed to rev up your metabolism. Did anyone else read this?

Have great days everyone.

Deb - Drowning Pool does "Soldiers" and "Bodies"....can't think of anything else right now....but there are others.

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Today will be a busy day for me. I have some yard stuff to do. An electrician is coming over, errands, laundry and BACK AND BICEPS! My back is still sore from the deads and my legs are fried STILL...I might have to do long bike ride thurs or fri. Still plan on getting on elliptical as well and burning about 300 cals. I don't want to over do it with my legs if I am gonna go on my bike for 30 miles.

Good morning. I am planning on hopefully doing a circiut today. I am still feeling doms in my back from KPC. I would like to do B&G tomorrow. I am takin my dinner to work with me tonight. Not going to eat there anymore. None of it is good.

Lora- I just got that mag in the mail, so I will check out that article.

Char- I can't wait to do yard work here. Was 60 yesterday, so warm....barely 30 today. Sucks.

Today was a very hard workout. I loved it! I really pushed myself with the weights. I'm really liking this rotation.

1:30 min. rest between each set

BACK
Chin ups:
BW - 14
10# - 6/6
***I was shooting for 15 reps with the first set but didn't quite make it. Adding my weighted vest really made a difference as you can see from the reps.

Overhand Barbell Rows:
70# - 8/8/8/8
***These felt good, maybe should have gone higher in weight.

T-Bar Rows:
65# - 8
70# - 8/7/8
***Still not sure if I like this exercise or not.

BICEPS
Barbell Curls:
65# - 7/6/6/6
***Was suppose to do a warmup but working my back I'm sure my biceps were warm. This weight felt good.

Incline Dumbbell Curls:
25's - 8/8/7/6
***Good weight for this exercise. I love this exercise.

Preacher Curls:
60# - 5 and a half
55# - 6 and a half/6
***Wow, I really struggled with all these sets. My bi's were fried by this point.

Should have done abs but I ran out of time. Will do that tomorrow after cardio.

That is all...

CHAR!!! - Check your email before you workout today!!!

Just weighed myself for a starting weight.....and almost threw up in my mouth! I have a WHOLE 12 pounds to lose. I can't believe I let myself gain that much weight. Talk about motivation!!!! Holy Sh*t!

Morning,

I got a little rest last night, kept waking to horrible coughing. The Night Quil did help but still have deep cough in my chest and it hurts.

Okay, I almost talked myself out of getting my butt up to do my workout, so at 5:35am which is late for me, I got up had 1/2 c of coffee and did an hour jog, slowly getting my strength back.

Yesterday, before I left work, I download CC#7. Glad I used a little common a senses, cuz, CC7 would've been a bit too much for me this morning.

Tonight, more NQ and in bed hopefully before 8pm planning to preview Amy's knock out. I did preview In the Ring, not Cathe x( but will give it a try, looks like fun! ttyl

Hi Maeghan :D don't sweat it, you'll get it off. I have almost 8 to lose myself;-)

Good Morning:)
Finished 4DS premix chest shoulders and tris. It fried me!!! I went to failure I lot faster then just doing one body part off the 4DS series}(
Off to work:(
Have a great day everyone!!
Randi

Debbie,

Damn, I swear your lifting heavier and heavier all the time!!!
Yeah, got your email. I will just copy what you did today then since I am doing it as well today. So, "BW" is warmup? I might have to add some weight to when doing Chin Ups, but might have to figure that one out as I don't have a weighted vest so maybe just backpack of some sort.

Meg,

I throw up in my mouth when my weight goes up too and then doesn't budge. It is the food that gets ya. Ain't worth it. Like you said, start eating clean and stick with it. No more choc. for me. Put all that behind you and just put your focus on what you want and no more worries..that is what I am doing. Still holding steady here at 119 (that is alright, but it ain't good enough for ME), and want to drop another 2 pounds. Just gonna get into my workouts and work really hard and everything else will fall into place, right??? YEAH!

Char - You should be taking days inbetween as rest days. Are you doing that? I see you worked shoulders yesterday and you aer working bis and back today. Be careful with that, you could easily overtrain. Nice workout yesterday too! BW means body weight.

Meghan - Great job with Step Blast last night! I love that workout and really miss doing my step workouts. Hopefully when I get my new weight room set up, I'll have room to do step workouts again.

Sandy - Nice workout yesterday. Don't ever apologize or make excuses for the weights you are using. You are doing awesome!!! Zottman's are also my almost favorite bicep exercise. They really work the forearms good. And I have the same love/hate thing going on with BSS. I dread doing them but once I get them done I feel so good about it.

Lora - I will download those songs. Thanks! Did you get my pm? I need your address.

Teddygirl - You will LOVE CC #7. It is my favorite! I can't wait until you try it.

Randi - Nice workout!

Debbie,

I was gonna rest on Sunday. I am planning a 30 mile bike ride tomorrow. It always keeps the fat off my mid section when I go for long ride like that so that is why I am gonna do it cuz I know we are trying to build muscle here and don't want to burn it off, but I think the only thing I will burn off is fat cuz I won't continue doing 30 mile rides..once, won't hurt. I actually felt like I was overtraining more with the X workouts. Always so damn tired. Feel much better doing this. Thanks though, my friend.

Debbie - great work out!

I may try that rotation next week after all. it looks like fun!
What is BSS? and zottman's?

Char - good workout!

FYI - I have dropped a size since "hanging out" with you guys! Weight is pretty much the same, but the skinny jeans are fitting.

Char - I meant that you should be doing cardio on alternate days. Weight work one day, cardio the next. One full rest day during the week. I know you need more cardio and it's ok to do that on weight training days, but I think you should space out the weight training on alternate days. But you do what feels right for you. Just making sure you understand the rotation.

Ally - BSS is Bulgarian split squats (Cathe does these in Butts & Gutts. I think she uses 3 risers for a few sets and 4 risers for a set). Zottman's are Cathe's "curl up reverse down". I can't remember what workout she does these in, maybe Muscle Max? If I haven't answered your question you can google these exercises.

I just got back from taking my granddaughters to school. I started my workout with Amy Bento's In the Ring stopping at the stretch, then I did to of the knockouts from her Hi/Lo knockout and the core and stretch. I used a 10lb med ball for ITR and 10# dumbbells for the core work. I also added 30 of the ab exercise that Ally posted the other day(thanks Ally) with the stability ball and the Bowflex I held a 15# dumbbell while doing it. I am letting my veggie and egg white frittata settle and I will go back and do Slow and Heavy Chest, back and planks. My arms are sore from Mondays Biceps and Triceps. Legs are OK today even though I did 260# on the Bowflex for squats and used a 95# dumbbell for the plies on S&H legs. I may have doms tomorrow though:)

Charlotte, I need to get outside today too. It is supposed to storm tomorrow so today is the day LOL

Lora, Did you read the article in May Oxygen Mag?? They have and article called Train Smarter with 8 ways to fire up your mojo.It shows different methods to use if your progress has stopped. Amy's Slo Mo and Cathe's Slow and Heavy are both 8 reps workouts. Right now I am doing a rotation of like this: ( I added cardio to this) S&H takes up a lot of time. I plan on repeating this two more times. Saves me some boredom of sticking with one workout series LOL
Mon Slo Mo lower and core
Tues Slo Mo chest, bis and tris
Wed Slo Mo back & shoulders
Thurs cardio, core and yoga
Fri total body of choice (I did Drill Max total body & Tracey's glute camp standing work
Sat cardio, core and yoga
(I switched Friday and Sat around some though as I only had 40 minutes to workout on Friday so did a short cardio)

Mon S&H Triceps, Biceps, and abs
Tues S&H legs and shoulders
Wed S&H Chest, Back, and planks + abs
Thurs Cardio and yoga
Fri total body of choice
Sat cardio, abs and yoga

Next week will be a low weight week of 3 total body & circuits and of course yoga and cardio

Teddy, I know how you feel with all of the coughing. I have been dragging lately. Thought I was going to die doing Hi/Lo knockout Mon but I stayed with it through the whole thing. Hope you get to feeling better.

Sandy, that was a good workout you did yesterday. Your weights are great. You just try to do the best you can and you will see results. I can't lift near as heavy as some of these ladies here but I still get results and that is what matters:)

Morning Maniacs,

This morning was supersets again done in three sets of eight with 1:30 minute rest.

Back/Chest
Pullups
8/8/8 *** 4/4/3 unassisted! WooHoo! Thought this would drop more with superseting!
Incline Barbell Press
8/8/8 - 92# ***very hard!

Shoulder-Traps/Quads
WG Upright Rows
8/8/8 - 62#
Static Lunge
8/8/8 - 90#

Biceps/Hamstrings
Hammer Curls
8 - 28's
8/8 - 27's **knew after first set, I couldn't maintain 28's
SLDL's
8/8/8 - 105# ***grip was shot for these, have to figure out that problem

Then did some ab work.

Sandy - Nice workout! You did the right thing by listening to your body!

Teddygirl - You are a true maniac workoing out when you feel that way. Maybe you should just rest!

Debbie - What changes you making to your workout room?

Awesome job everyone, as always!

Linda

Debbie thanks - i will review that. The bulgarian split squats are like one legged squats aren't they? Those are hard, I like them.

Thanks!.

Lora - I agree with Diane Sue - Cathe's slow is heavy series is really good and lower reps.

i was also doing a routine I found in Muscle & Fitness - hers - where you do one set really heavy - with 6 reps and then follow that with two sets high reps - I will try find it tonight and I could scan and email it to you if you give me your email address.

I can't believe you workout at 3:00 am! There are days when I have insomnia (perimennopause) and I will be up at 3:00 but I still can't seem work out until 5:00 or 6:00.

Ally: ^^^^5 for fitting into your skinny jeans, I dare not try mines on for a few more weeks’ Nice job

Char: You seem like an outdoor kinda gal, right? Don worry about dropping a few lbs you will. As for me, I have around 7 or maybe 8 lbs too lose, been trying not to stress myself:( I love being outdoors to, can’t wait for the weather to break. Me, in addition to my morning workout, I walk like crazy when I get off work I rush in the house and rush out. I speed walk sometimes 2.5 hours. That when I have problems keeping weigh on me. I get so freaking skinny, maybe I’ll visit Dairy Queen more.

Debra: You and Shewolf are the reason I brought CC7. I can’t wait to try it either, I already know it’s going to challenge me. I usually don’t run past an hour on my treadie; with the x 13 minute’s omg that might just kill me.

Gotta run, am needing a nap

Teddygirl,

LMAO..visits to dairy queen. lol. I am just a control freak, not over anyone else, just myself. I think with myself I just got to where I wanted and then got lazy and thought I was immortal or something..started slowly with a few chocs and then before I knew it..WAKE UP CALL! Just a few pounds. Yeah, no big deal. I am not worried..Deb keep me working hard with her rotations.

Debbie,

I am gonna do my cardio with weights and rest on Sunday. I think this will work for me better and won't be feeling like I am overtraining if I keep the cal burns around 300 just for cardio.
