Hardcore Fitness Maniacs for Wed Oct 3

Dallys got me started on fresh blueberries a while back. I eat them with my oatmeal and love them. I never used to be able to eat them due to my stomach problems but they seem to agree with me now. I guess if you ladies eat dried cranberries.....I don't have to go off them cold turkey! I guess I just shouldn't add them to my salad if I've already eaten them in cereal. I LOVE most ALL fruits!!

I can't believe you ladies say TT gives you such great DOMS. Looking at the workouts on paper.....you'd NEVER guess that.

Wormwood - You suffer from depression too? I guess I know why I've been as severe as I have.....besides the recent job thing......I just started and I was early...so I wasn't expecting it. Now all of the food intake makes sense, as well as the migraine! The joys of being female!

Suz,

Pardon me ladies for crashing your party but I wanted to make a comment on what the nurse said during your mamogram today. I recently lost a dear friend to liver cancer. She was 45, two small children, you get the picture. Last year when she was diagnosed she had about 9% body fat. She did not have enough body fat to help her fight off the cancer. Additionally, I work with a woman who is in remission from colon cancer. During before and during treatment she lost 20 lbs. Having the additional fat aided her in recovery.

I understand where you're coming from but I've seen this with my own eyes and I have re-evaluated my bf goals because of this. I think 25 lbs is a bit excessive but I'll keep my 10 lbs because I may need it. That's not to say this is right for everyone but it's food for thought!

:)

Penney - We were just having the discussion about that ramen soup at work yesterday. I love it but it's so high in fat and I could never figure out why until this guy at work (who eats sooooooooooooooo unhealthy) said it's b/c the noodles are deep fried. We Googled it and sure enough.

Sorry Lora - hopefully you don't like that stuff. Now blueberries in oatmeal - YUM!!! I can even eat them plain now too. I never used to like them like that. But I love them now. Except when I get a bitter one. I hope you feel better.

Suz - I call them tart....and those are my fave's in the blueberries.....as I hate the sweet ones. I eat them by the handful.....love them! I'm still jealous of your weight loss. If i'd ever get a freakin' job....maybe I'd stop piggin' out all day...cuz I'd be at work!

IronIC - I don't cook.....not even soup....so we're safe with the Ramen...although I used to have a boyfriend that cooked (long ago...I Know...rare) and he'd make me Ramen noodles with cream cheese and something else - but not as soup...more like cheesy noodles. They were good back then! Don't worry......as I wasn't totally serious about the food talk. After all, I AM the one who started the Chocolate Lucky Charms conversation on this thread....but it's all cuz I read someone's blog who discovered them....or I'd have been clueless cuz I never scope the cereal isle for that sort of stuff....I stick to Grape Nuts, Shredded Wheats and Kashi.

Hey Maniacs! I'm still dinking around! I've got to get out on my bike! It's windy out and I keep waiting for it to go away and obviously it's not gonna.

Suz I can't believe how obsessed all your Drs. are with weight! What is up with that? They mustn't see many in-shape people on a daily basis. I always thought if I was ever on Survivor, I'd want to back on a few extra just in case. LOL! Speaking of Survivor, my DD's friend is on this season, he's that Todd kid from Utah.:)

Lora Glad you are enjoying the blueberries. They are great with oatmeal and now I'm loving them on Spinach Salad.:9

Penney I can't eat the Ramen Noodles after I learned they were fried either. I still sneak them into a Chinese Salad once in a while though. Shhh.

Ok, someone kick me and make me get out on that bike! Maybe I'll take Carma...she's always game.

Talking about food, I had a yummy salad for lunch with greens and spinach along with a lowfat, low sodium La Tortilla factory tortilla w/ salsa, green onions and bell peppers. Had an orange for a snack a while ago. I have started adding a little more fruit back into my diet lately. Helps my energy levels. Normally I don't eat cereals or breads often.

Suz, what a deal bogo mammograms. I know what you are talking about on the weight. Messages are confusing. I know I was hearing on the news the other day that lower weight leads to a longer life span. But I also understand that you need the weight to lose when ill. DH had pnuemonia and was in the hospital once. He looked like death, he lost so much weight. I am so glad God spared him. So what does one do? I kind of lean toward the lower weight healthy diet. Thanks for the compliment. As you can see there is quite a bit of room to workout in the trailer. Ceiling is high too. I doubt it would work with two dogs though.

Lora, I like blueberries on salad with almonds or pecans:9 I love dried cranberries. I think they are a whole lot better than eating candy or something. I don't buy them often though. I can't resist eating the whole bag. Maybe if they were around all of the time I would get tired of them like I do raisins. You know, I have made hot cereal and threw an egg white and some cinnamon in it and couldn't taste the egg white.

I have a great idea. The next time I go to the doctor, which is in a month, how about you all come with me? That way he'll see what a bunch of healthy women look like! My friend and I were talking about it and she lives just 45 miles south of here in Ft. Collins, CO and we were saying how the doctors there probably aren't the same way b/c there are SO many healthy looking people there compared to here.

Diane Sue - That's really scary about Bill. But you know how men lose weight so much faster than women. For us we'd probably lose 2 pounds. I'm glad God took care of him! It's good you have hight ceilings for your workouts.

Lora - Remember - you have much more muscle than I do. TRUST me. I'm glad we've switched to talking about healthy food b/c now I'm craving THAT!

Dallys - Get your tush out on that bike. You KNOW the wind isn't going anywhere. That's cool about that Todd kid.

We really need some way you can see everyone's comments while posting...cuz I always read everything and have lots to say to everyone and then it just leaves the ol' brain!!

Suz - You're doctor does need to chill. I guess I'm not that huge......cuz everyone seems to think I'm crazy when I say I'm trying to lose weight. We are definitely not like the rest of America! I have had doctors tell me I'm just right weight wise (so I must be fat LOL!). They do tell me I shouldn't lose any weight cuz then I'd be at risk for osteoporosis....but I think I could safely lose 10 without a problem.

Diane Sue - you AMAZE me every time you speak of your diet. No wonder you look so amazing.

Most of you ladies are much more disciplined with your diet than me. It's one of the hardest things for me to control in my life. I've said before, I could easily see myself with some sort of eating disorder cuz of the way I am and my addictive behavior. I really have to try hard to avoid that from happening.

I forgot to report my foot doc appt. I had so many questions. He tried to leave the room 3 times and I kept saying 2 more questions, 1 more question, etc. I was a bit miffed! Plus, he shrugged his shoulders as if saying "I dunno" to a couple questions....WTF??? I'm out of the boot and I'm not totally healed yet. I'm still not allowed to jump or run or do any high impact in my shoes......but I will put the boot on and do a bit of jumping (as I have been). I'm only allowed to walk for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. I go back in 2.5 weeks. I'm not allowed any ballet leg workouts or flow yoga yet....but not because of my metatarsal. He's more concerned my Achilles might snap because I need to ease my foot back into it's normal position slowly cuz it's been at that odd angle in the boot for so long. And believe me.....I'm very aware how severe an Achilles' tear can be....so I'm not going to be doing those things just yet. I'll stick to Hatha yoga and regular leg work for a while longer.

Lora - There is NO WAY you can be huge the way you work out. And by your avatar you don't look huge. You are too hard on yourself. And with your addictive personality you should be careful. I think what you are doing is just right. I think from what you've said in the past, 10 pounds is probably too much for you to lose. I think you've consistently mentioned 5 pounds. So IF ANYTHING AT ALL, that would be more like it. I think you've got enough on your plate right now though. I'm glad you got the boot off. Now take it easy with that foot!

Suz - thanks for saying that.....but I used to say I needed to loose 5-7 pounds, but that's before I gained the 3 or so that I have recently from being home and eating too much. I just am amazed at how I have zero fat from my waist up. I was doing lying oblique work today and I always think....what a waste of time. I have zero fat on my obliques.....but from the lower belly down, I tend to store fat. It's crazy I tell ya. How can I be so small on top and carry the fat on the bottom? I recently saw a picture of myself at age 10 on a beach at Lake Erie (from the backside) and I commented on how my body is still the same. Zero fat from the waist up but I was more round and full on the bottom half. It's amazing. I do think the Spinning has been helping my legs leanout just a teensie bit. I noticed, ever so slightly the other day, a tiny bit more definition in them. I will make sure I continue both Spinning and incorporating the Elipitcal for my lower impact days...since I have to be careful of more stress fractures. Re; the eating disorder...yes, I've known a long time that I have a tendency towards one. I worked with a girl when I was newly clean (who was also newly clean) and she used to binge eat and tell me about it. I've thought about eating something bad and throwing it up before...but have never actually done it....but I know if it's crossed my mind, and I'm a recovering addict, I need to be careful. I still don't think 10 pounds is too much....but my Mom always tells me when I was not clean, I looked skeletal and I always thought I looked fine. I've always struggled with body image and self image period.

I did it! I went on my bike ride.:) Took all I had to just get out the door. LOL! Had a great ride and saw the funniest thing ever! A lil' old chinese lady waaay up high in the hills...Get this...Drunk as a skunk!! I almost fell off my bike at the sight! She had a backpack with a bottle (or 2?) and was drinking from a flask. She could have been your next door neighbor or PTA leader or something. Not your normal looking drunk at all... she was a happy drunk... I tried to talk to her, but she just giggled as I passed by. ROFL!

Dallys - you shouldn't be messin' with those drunk ol' ladies....she might push you off you're bike!! You're too funny! Happy drunk!! That's much better than a mean one! Glad you finally got your bike ride in. I should probably go do some yoga...but I'm not sure I feel like it.

Lora, I agree with Suz. You are way to hard on yourself and I could not imagine you having an ounce of fat as dedicated as you are. I am sure I indulge in more junk than you. I am one of those people that if I start to eat bad I eat the whole thing. I also know it never hurts me and I go right back to eating my usual healthy diet. Mostly because it makes me feel crappy when I eat junk. You are right to be careful though. You are up way before anyone else and you do awesome workouts. You have to look great! :)
