Cathlete
Morning Maniacs-

This morning I did The Firm Cardio Overdrive and then I ended up adding on the weight segments from The Firm Burn & Shape (cuz Cardio Overdrive didn't have enough in it.....and I shoulda know from the title). Workout was 1 hour and 20 minutes and I burned 448 calories. I also did Ravi & Ana's Dr. Yoga HouseCall...Back Pain Relief 11".

Deb - are you guys getting Harleys?? I think you'd look rockin' on a Harley Sportster!

Suz - you never vary the time of your cardio?? I've read that you're supposed to sometimes do shorter sessions...i.e. 30" to keep your body from adapting to the cardio.....but I have a hard time doing it also.

I've got to run down the street in a bit to fill out an application for a job. I'm taking Mom for cataract surgery later and I've got to call the Temp Agency and try to get an appt to sign up ....as much as I don't want to.

Have great workouts everyone.

Good Morning, today I am going to start a rotation for awhile using Amy's All Pump EX starting out as a 3 day split. I will do back, biceps and triceps. Cardio as well:) BBL

Lora, how was Amy's cardio in HLX. I keep thinking I would like the circuits on it but am not sure about the cardio. I don't usually like hi lo that much.

Diane Sue - My opinion is that Amy's forte is Hi/Lo and I really like the cardio in her Hi Lo X and I'm not big on Hi/Lo either. I don't really do it that often, but when I do, I wonder why I put it off so long. It does build in complexity though....so I find if I try to do a premix, I can't follow as well as if I just start at the beginning and keep going......although that's how I am with most of her coreography. I think I got my HR the highest it's ever been doing Hi Lo Extreme once.......but I must have been well rested that day...LOL!.

Morning ladies, not much to report here, so i haven't been checking in..
Tried High step challenge. Can't do the jumping. Funny, i can run , but no jumping jacks.. MMM. Oh, well. It will come.

Doing a cardio coach daily is not exactally exciting.
I have gotten one in daily. Made it throuh 6 with Candice, so, feeling mych more like myself now..
Did MMax yesterday without the chest work . Feel like i am wasting my time at times with the lighter weights. But, couple more weeks and i shall be back to me.. I hope.

Randi, hope you had a great time.I am so enjoying the photos..of the road trip..

Hello everyone.
Have a great day..

Well, my legs are pleasantly sore this morning. Hammies and calves especially. Not to the point where I'm in pain so that's a good thing. Today was Chest & Tri's. Had a horrible night sleep because hubby has an upper respiratory infection AGAIN and was coughing up a lung all night long. I'm lucky if I got 4 hours sleep last night.

Chest
Barbell Bench Press (warmup):
65# - 1 set/15 reps
85# - 1 set/12 reps

Barbell Bench Press (working sets):
110# - 3 sets/6 reps (only did 2 sets last week)
***These were incredibly hard this morning. I'm glad I got all three sets in though. The last rep on the last set was almost a lay-on-my-chest-because-I-can't-lift-any-freakin'-more rep.

Incline Dumbbell Press:
42's - 3 sets/8 reps (same as last week)
***These felt way heavy today as well.

Decline Dumbbell Flye:
37's - 3 sets/10 reps (same)

Pushups - Feet Elevated:
22/20/16 (last week was 20/20/15)
***Now here is where I started feeling stronger. Weird. My hubby was watching me for I don't know how long when I was doing the second set, which is really unlike him. He asked me how many of those I had done and I told him 20 and that it was my second set. He smiled and walked away. I think I actually impressed him. LOL!

Triceps
Close Grip Bench Press:
85# - 3 sets/6 reps (same - next week I'm trying 90#)
***The first two sets felt easy with these. Struggled with the last few reps of set 3 a bit. :hyper:

Skull Crushers:
60# - 8/7/7 - (up 5#)
***Totally excited about this! I tried 60# last week and only squeaked out 6 reps. I was so pumped by the time I got done with these!!!

Bench Dips
55# - 3 sets/10 reps (last week I did 9/8/8/

So overall, I feel I had a pretty good workout. Kind of bummed at how much I struggled with the chest work but I'm sure no sleep had a lot to do with that.

Diane Sue - Thanks for letting me know about your bike. I think it would be so cool to have one!

Hello Ladies!

This morning I did an easy spin on the bike for an hour since I did that 50 miles yesterday that was a HARD, FAST ride. I didn't want to push my legs too hard today. Plus I had my echocardiogram this morning and didn't have as long to work out.

I have to go home early tonight to sign for my new phone (from FedEx) so I'm going to do PUB then.

Lora - This time of year I pretty much start my rides at 6am and finish at 7:20 or 7:30. I just try to take advantage of the daylight. As it gets darker in the mornings my rides outside will get shorter. I don't like to do less than an hour of cardio. I figure that it works for me so why change it? I know what "they" say, but if I'm not having a problem, why worry about it, ya know? If I was having weight issues then I might need to look at something else. My body never adapts anyway b/c I can still never breathe!!! :p

Debbie - I love that you impressed your DH!

Diane Sue - I hope you like your new rotation. I know you were ready to be done with S&H.

Storm - Let's think about it - jumping jacks and @@'s go straight up and down, running and @@'s not quite as much! Take it easy on those things! You can still stop in and chat you know.

Randi - I'm glad you had such a great time. Can't wait to see your pics!

Hey Maniacs! Had fun this weekend. Covered 2 states. Went to Pocatello Idaho and Jackson Hole Wyoming.:)
Not sure what workout I'll do today. Might just be a CleanMax as bad as my house looks!

Randi- Great pictures! Cathe looks georgous and so do you! Sounds like you had a blast.

Suz- Great job on the bike ride! Are you close to Jackson Hole? How tourist-y is that town, with the gun shootout and all? LOL! We had fun anyways. It was nice and cool there.

Debbie- I hate when I don't get enough sleep. It affects me alot more than it used too.

Anne- I don't know if I could do a CC everyday. Maybe if I was outside I could. But, then I don't like to use those outside. LOL!

Diane Sue- It's always fun starting a new rotation.:)

Lora-Good luck in finding a job.:)

I started my workout late this morning. I began with Kelly Coffey Get Ready Step Go no abs or str, then I did I Max2 intervals 1-5, I went on to do Amy's All Pump Extreme back biceps and triceps 3 day split premix no w/up or str and added in the abs to it, I finished with Amy's Abs and Stretch str#2. Tomorrow I will do the lower core premix but leave out the core and will start with the multi joint segment, along with Kickbox that focuses on lower.
Explaining some of these moves may be difficult but here goes:)
Back
chinups ( I used body bar across lat tower) 64 reps total
barbell t bar rows 3 sets 32 reps 40# these are easy as the t bar but once you stand to the side of the bar and do one arm row it gets tough.
incline reverse flys 8# dumbbells 3 sets 12 reps
Biceps
body bar w/ tubing curls 9# bar and silver challenge pro tubing
internal/external rotation curls tubing at a quick pace teal challenge pro tubing 12 reps in and out 3 sets
incline bench hammer curls 20#dumbbells 12 reps 3 sets (8 reps turn and over and do 4 reps)
Triceps
ticeps push ups triangle hands on step with 2 risers 8 reps lower raise halfway hold and extend 1 arm and then the other and repeat.
one arm kick backs foot on bench 2/2 count 2 sets 8 reps and 2 sets 4 reps 15# dumbbell
overhead 1 arm extension with tubing seated silver challenge pro forgot how many reps:)
Abs core 10# med ball and dumbbell, gliding discs

Lora, another question on Hi Lo Extreme. Does it require a lot of space? I watched the clip and wasn't sure. I think I would like it.

Debbie, good workout with so little sleep. Impressive:)

Suz, I love S&H but was just getting ready for a change.

Randi, enjoyed your pics. Looks like you had fun. THat is so nice you had your mother with you.

Anne, would love to hear more of your whit around here regardless if you don't do anything.

Charlotte, I hope everything gets better for you soon. Would love to see you around more but I am sure you are under a lot of stress at this point.

Just got home from Mom's. The surgery went well and she's got to sit around and not allowed to read or watch TV tonight. She's bored already.

Suz - I guess I think I need to listen to what "they" say....cuz I need to lose 7 or so pounds!!! I need to staple my mouth shut!!!! What do you mean you can't breathe? You still haven't got your asthma under control? The only time I have trouble is when it's really humid here and my sinuses drain and affect me or when I have a cold. I'm surprised you're not controlled with that yet. I'd be pissed.

Diane Sue - I haven't done it for a while....but from memory, I'd say you need moderate space. I workout in my living room/dining room area and I do have to go sideways a lot to use the longer length of the room, but I usually do okay with it. I think you'd find a way to modify if you ran out of space.

Randi - so glad you had fun on the trip. I'll have to check your pic's out!

I got called from the place I filled out the application this morning. I have to go take 9 tests tomorrow morning in Human Resources. Fun...Fun.. Then in the afternoon, I'm going to the Temp Agency.

I'm glad my Mom is home safe and sound. Gotta go get some oils up for sale now.

Dallys - I'm glad you had a fun weekend. We're at the complete other end of the state from Jackson Hole - about 10 hours. JH is VERY touristy. It's SUPER expensive to live there. I'd love to live there though if I could afford it! It's so pretty. I spent a lot of time there when I worked in tourism. I just love it.

Randi - LOVE the pics! You look beautiful. I wouldn't worry about a couple of pounds. The way you work out they'll be gone in a flash.

The Deputy Chief from DH's dept. died this morning while running on the treadmill in the PD's gym. He was only a year older than I am. I called him dad (one of those silly stories from long ago). He had a defective heart valve that was replaced with a pig valve maybe 2 years ago (just like my mom had a few years ago). He had a stroke about a month ago where 1 side of his face went droopy but by the time they got him to the hospital it was back to normal and they could find no residual effects. He was very overweight - all in his stomach. SUCH a good guy. It's the Chief, the Deputy Chief, 2 captains and 4 lieutenants (DH is one) who all work together "upstairs". He left a wife and 3 teenage daughters. This is just a testament to our continued work to be healthy. You've just got to keep trying.

Lora - Nope. Still don't have me figured out. Maybe it's b/c I can't take the daily inhalers b/c they give me migraines (they all seem to have headaches as side effects). But I think that's why they sent me for that echocardiogram today - b/c they think that the albuterol should at least help some and it doesn't so maybe it's not asthma. But the lung doctor thought it was even though they never tested me while exercising. But I don't know that they ever do. I'm thinking maybe I'll go to some sort of sports doctor who can maybe tell me if it's something I'm doing wrong when I breathe? Maybe I just don't know how to breathe. I'd really like somebody to actually see what is happening to me WHEN I'm exercising b/c THAT'S when I have trouble.

Suz - Oh...I forgot you can't take the daily inhalers cuz of headaches. Maybe that's why I get so many migraines!! I'm on inhaled corticosteroids and albuterol, as well as nasal sprays. They are the only things that got me under control....however, I do notice that I tend to breathe "backwards" per se. You know the Inhale...stomach expands and exhale ...stomach contracts? When I get nervous.....I don't do that and tend to have trouble breathing. I remember when I worked for the Pulmonolgists, there was an oral medication you could take for asthma ....Singulair maybe? Can't be for sure.....but have you asked your doctor about that? Most times I only had asthma attacks about 10 minutes into cardio (before all of my inhaler therapy)....but my inhaled steroids, etc took care of that. I don't know how you get your HR Up so high without having an attack.

Lora - Could be why you get headaches so often. You might want to talk to your doctor. When I was on twice daily inhalers I was getting tons of migraines so I had to quit. It was awful. And it wasn't helping my supposed asthma anyway. Hmmm...breathing backwards. I think I do that too. Is that wrong? Singulair has headaches as a side effect so I won't try it. I've given up on any inhalers that list headaches as a side effect. You see, this is part of the reason I question the asthma diagnosis - I can't really say I know what it's like to have an attack 10 minutes into a workout like people say. I simply can't breathe when I work out. If it's windy I can't catch my breath. But they call it asthma so I call it asthma. I'm so easy. :)

Suz - I used to get spells (asthma attacks) where 10 minutes into my cardio, I'd start wheezing and gasping for air until I had to stop. As far as breathing backwards.....I think that's something I just am so used to doing and have been doing it for so long.....that I have to really concentrate to practice proper breathing. The only reason I found out I was breathing backwards is from breathing instructions on yoga tapes and a I think a doctor once told me this. I also tend to hold my breath with I'm nervous and not breathe deeply....which is equally bad. To practice proper breathing so as to condition yourself to try to do it normally (although it's very hard when you've been breathing backwards for years) is to rest your palm over your belly/diaphragm area and try to relax the area. When you inhale ...let your belly/diapgragm rise outwards and feel the air coming into your lungs from deep down and as you exhale, let your belly contract and blow the air out and your hand will sink inwards. It's good to practice as many deep breathing rounds as you can a few times throughout the day. I know a lot of times when I think I need my inhaler, I'm actually not "belly breathing" and am breathing backwards and therefore, I am sort of hyperventilating or feeling asthmatic. Usually, I try doing a couple belly breaths and if I still can't breathe, then I use my albuterol. Sometimes I can tell the difference, but other times, I use the technique above to determine.

Re: Migraines - I was told by both ENT specialists I saw that I get severe migraines because of my Pansinusitis and severe sinus issues and they have both told me that surgery would help......but there is no way I'm having surgery for it. I'm not even allowed to use my Zomig that much any more cuz my liver function testing is high and I have to be careful. I had a severe migraine the day before last and had to rough it out. It was a bad day indeed. I'd ask my Doctor about Singulair or oral prednisone for your asthma. There are other treatment options besides inhalers and I'm surprised you haven't been offered an alternative treatment.

Lora - They have offered me Singulair but I told them I didn't want any more drugs. I worry about my kidneys. Since I'm on Topamax and I take Imitrex sometimes I don't want to take too many medications and since inhalers give me migraines and don't seem to work why risk my kidneys?
