Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Sun May 21

Cathlete
Morning Maniacs -

This morning I did 1/2 hour of Bosu Fusion Cardio with Rob Glick, 40 minutes of Gunnar's Core Secrets with the Agility Ladder "Arms, Legs & Everything in Between" and then a 5 minute pilates ab workout. I then did 85 minutes of Mark Blanchard's Power Yoga "Foundation" (for you Debbie).

Okay Debbie - what....are you trying to kill me? I will never do anything else (aside from a little easier cardio before it) with one of his 90 minute yoga DVDs again.

Dallas - to answer your question - YES, Mark's yoga is harder than Bryan's. I haven't done Bryan for a while, but I don't ever remember feeling like this after a Bryan tape. I'm like jello. I almost couldn't make it down the stairs to put the laundry in. If I can walk tomorrow and move, maybe I'll try that WillPower & Grace DVD for you! We'll see.

Here's a bit about each workout....all of which were functional fitness based and I think I OD'd my poor body on FF today. I'm shaking all over and feel like jello. I hope I can walk tomorrow.

Sorry this is long due to the reviews.
All I can say about the Bosu is that it's fun. Rob is a good instructor (but sort of gay sounding) and again Chalene is a background exerciser along with Gay Gasper. It got my HR up and it worked the heck out of my legs and core. I almost couldn't keep up doing the sports drills at one point. It is hard for me.

On to Gunnar - Again, I think these are more advanced than his previous offerings...but again, I did this as an add on after the Bosu so I think I may have felt it a bit more. Lots of pushups in this and plank walking in the agility ladder, as well as agility foot work in the ladder. The weight portions focused mainly on triceps and chest, whereas the other total body (new one) focused more on biceps and lats (which I found kind of cool). The ab work was tougher than in the past and I used a 5 # med ball. Good functional fitness DVD.

Okay - The Foundation - Sedona Series with Mark Blanchard 85 minute Power Yoga. Whoa Dude. Is he tryin' to kill me? I'll never do a FF weight workout before this. This moved slower than the Flow that I did last week (60 min) and it had tons of balancing postures. We were on our feet doing standing postures for 65 minutes. He does balance work starting out for about 10 minutes on one leg and 10 minutes on the other leg. I thought I was gonna die. My legs were shakin' and I was weeble wobbly all over the place. He goes straight from holding your leg out to the front side and across the body into balancing stick, standing splits, reverse moon, etc. KILLER segment. After that, I thought we'd move to the floor...but no.. we did more sun saluations, standing poses (most everything is done where you hold poses longer so this really is a strengthing workout). He threw some balancing arm postures in a while back...crow. Some side planks, etc. Then after the sun sal's and standing postures, he goes into more balancing postures......by this time......for sure I was shakin' and weeble/wobbling. I was praying to go down to the floor. We finally go down to the floor but only to do full wheel, shoulder stands, plough and then some seated forward bends with some harder twists where you wrap your arms around your leg (hard to explain) and it really gets a stretch into your intrascapular area). Finally you lay down and pull your leg over to stretch your spine and then final relaxation.

Debbie - I was gonna ask you why this bothered your back. I didn't feel it during the workout, but my lower and mid back are definitely feeling worked now. The Bosu tends to do this to me also. You've gotta do this whole thing and let me know what you think. I think I'll wait a while before I even try The Culmination which is 98 minutes long!!

Attention - Yoga Ladies - Please check out the thread from yesterday, as I posted the link to Shiva's Trance Dance DVD from the VF forum and I also found this guy, Duncan Wong that sounds interesting. Check out his credentials and what he teaches and tell me what you think. If you have time. I ordred these in hopes they'd be good for my shoulders, neck, disc, etc.

Off to soak my poor body in the tub. There isn't enough Epsom Salt in the world for me today.

Toasty: AM I seeing that rotation you sent me correctly? You do a weight day and then a circuit day all week?

Have great workouts or rest days. We're going to see An American Haunting today.

bye for now......I'll be back. Sorry this is so long. If you ladies want me to quit with the lengthy reviews.....just tell me and I won't be offended.

Good morning,
I decided on a rest day today. I slept in and feel achy and coughed half the night. I am just going to enjoy church and family activity afterward. Oh and I may try out my knee raise tower later after everyone is gone:)

Lora, I saw your post yesterday. I was looking at the Shiva Rea dvd that I think is called vinyasa? You can tell I am fairly new to Yoga. It looked good. I think I might order it. It is the one I mentioned from Target yesterday. I just want a little bit shorter one to add to my workouts though.

Hi to everyone,
Diane Sue

Hi Bill - I never heard of that one. She has Yoga Shakti out, Solar Flow, Lunar Flow and Sun Salutations out (besides the Trance Dance one). Yoga Shakti is the best one cuz it has the Matrix and you can make up your own practices or follow one of the pre-programed ones but a couple of them are long. Her other DVDs Solar Flow & Lunar Flow are good also. I really like them. They both have 20-45 minute premixed practices on them. CD Universe has her DVDs for pretty cheap, or you can get one on Amazon for pretty cheap....if you can't find at Target. Good luck with your Yoga practice.

Diana Sue - Speaking of Charmed. I just watched last week's episode last night and I was crying. I hope this week's has a happier ending. I"m so bummed about this show ending.

I feel much better after soaking in the tub. ;)

Dallas - after thinking about it, I may have to hold off on Willpower and Grace cuz I think they do a lot of planks and pushups and I just did a bunch of that today and I'm not really supposed to do them. We'll see. Maybe I'll have to do it Wednesday. I'll preview it again later and decide.

My DH just bought me 2 DVD towers to hold 140 DVD's each. I've got one filled up and I need to get the other one organized this afternoon. I've got way tooooooooooo many!! but you ladies already know that.

Lora,

Yup, your seeing the rotation correctly? What ya think? Well did Coremax 1 this morning and will finish my other workouts when I get back from Costco's.

Charlotte~~

Good morning All!

DH is home and kept me busy yesterday - we just spent the day together, which was nice. He's still sleeping right now, so I'm on line. :) I did manage to get in a six mile run before he got home yesterday. Today will be my KPC/KM/CK combo followed by Yoga - probably Yoga X.

Lora - sorry to hear you didn't like Da Vinci Code. I'll probably not see it, because it sounds like the focus is all wrong. I'm sorry I recommended that you see it.

Diane Sue - hope you're feeling better soon!

Charlotte - enjoy your day!

Waves to everyone that follows...

This morning I did Body Max step and the leg circuit drills. Then I did Body Max abs. Had a great sweaty workout! I was in my zone for 43 minutes and burned 317 calories. Pretty happy with that. Had sort of a bad eating day yesterday, my dh and I went to see "Poseiden", it was a good movie. We went to Steak 'n Shake after and I ate a burger and fries and a shake. Bad me. But it was so good. I paid for it afterwards, though. Oh well.

Lora - you will definitely be sore tomorrow, I was sore for two days after doing Mark's workout. My hamstrings especially. My low back was sore too. I think because of all the weird twisting poses he does.

Charlotte - can you share your rotation? I'm really interested in seeing it. You can pm it to me if you want. Thanks!

Hope you all have a great workout!

Today when I stepped out of bed I could hardly move! That muscle in my lower back/hip is killing me today. :( I never did do yoga yesterday b/c DH and I ended up riding after all. The wind calmed down some so we figured we'd go. Wouldn't you know it - we had a headwind on the way out and I'll be darned if it didn't switch AGAIN! And there were some ominous looking clouds that I told DH weren't coming our way b/c of the wind direction and guess what? We ended up having to turn around early and barely made it home before a huge thunderstorm - lightning and pouring rain. Whew! We only did 90 minutes - 22.5 miles. Our average was 17mph. I was hoping for better but hard to do riding into the wind both directions! I tried to draft of DH as much as possible.

Jeanette - I think a "comfortable" ride for me might be 15mph or so. :) Other than that I'm pushing pretty hard. If my HR stays around 166 I'm very comfortable. Sounds like you had a great day planned yesterday. I hope your ride today is great.

Diane Sue - once again a fabulous workout yesterday! No wonder you're tired today. I hope you had fun at your bbq. What's a knee raise tower? I hope your grandson's party was fun for you. I'm sorry about your crown. It'll be over before you know it! I hear ya - I'm gonna go sit in church and not move a muscle! I hope you feel better.

Debbie - thanks for the recipe. I have a feeling you don't cheat too often, so you probably deserved some cheat time yesterday. Sorry you paid for it.

Lora - I'm afraid I might be with you on the movie. I'm sorry you didn't like it. What a waste of money, huh? Keep the reviews coming.

Christine - I'm glad your DH is home. I bet you're so happy!

Charlotte - have a great day off work!

Did a lot of stuff in the yard yesterday. Maybe I aggravated my back. I should really try to do yoga today. Did I mention I bought Yoga for Happiness? It should arrive Tuesday. Yay! I might just be a convert.

Hi to all who follow.

Suz, this is the closest knee raise tower to mine I could find. It is a commercial grade from an Lady America Fitness Center. You can do dips and push ups off of it as well as knee raises and leg raises for your abs. I was told mine usually sells new for 800 dolars so I felt good about the purchase.

My grandsons party went well. You should have seen them all hanging off of my new piece of exercise equipment:) I am going to bed early tonight. Maybe I can get in a workout in the morning before I head out to the dentist.

Today's workout was a 57 mile bike ride. There were only 3 of us today. My girlfriend who I'll be riding the century with next week ran a 5K race yesterday so her legs were tired today. We turned around at the 20 mile mark as she was exhausted. Her DH and I finished up with a 45 minute climb up a hill and return so I ended up with 57 miles with probably about 3,500' of climbing altogether. I felt really good, and did some hill sprints along the way. The upper body and core work really helps on hill sprints. It was windy and we got rained on just a little bit. Lots of geese out in the beautiful dark green meadows. My legs are pretty fried now and on one of the last hills that I sprinted, I got the beginnings of a cramp in my thigh so know I really had a workout. Next week's century won't be the most prepared I've ever been, but we're doing it anyway and will just go at a slower pace. A lot of it's mental and I've done this century 3 other times, but it'll be the first time for her. We'll go easy toward the latter part of the week so we start with fresh legs on Saturday. I'm not too worried as for a century, it's only got about 1,500' or so of total climbing, so not that bad.

Lora, I so enjoy and respect your reviews of DVD's. Keep em coming! Wow, if Mark's tougher than Bryan, then that's something.

Diane Sue, hope you're not getting a cold. And what's a knee tower? What is it for?

Charlotte, hope your Costco trip was good. I haven't been in one in ages. I need to though.

Christine, so glad your DH is home and bet he is too. He'll probably really need to sleep after all the travel. Enjoy your kickboxing and yoga.

Debbie, the burger, fries and shake sound good. We're having Indian Tacos at work tomorrow (going away party for co-worker) so that'll be my cheat meal. I'm not big on the fry bread so will just eat the beans and stuff.

Suz, so glad you got the ride in anyway. Riding in the wind is tough, but a headwind both ways is just not fair! What's the matter with your hip? Boy, today sounds perfect for a yoga workout. I know for myself when I first start doing a lot of climbing, the tops of my hips get sore/tired and I have to stretch them while on the bike. Not sure what muscles those are. I think tomorrow will be a short Turbo Jam and then 1/2 hr. of yoga for me. I'll see how I am Tuesday whether I can do the Cardio Coach #3 workout or not, Thursday will be an easy spin so that I'll have fresh legs for Saturday's century. Glad you got the Eoin Finn PY4H. It's chaptered too so if you're short on time you can just pick out certain poses/sections.

Must go now,

Jeanette

Diane Sue - Aha! Now I know what you were talking about. I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. :) You got a really, really nice one. I hope you enjoy it - I'm sure you will. Fast morning vibes coming your way (meaning I hope the morning goes by really fast!!!

Jeanette - You put my little baby rides to shame. ;) Yesterday when I was going to ride DH said he'd go with me. I kept telling him he didn't have to do that. He knows I like him to go to help me with my speed, but I knew he wouldn't want to go as long as I wanted to go. I'm off four days next weekend, so I'm GONNA get a long ride in next weekend! Your ride sounds awesome. You're quite the little climber. A 45 minute climb??? Yikes!!! You'll do great on your century.

It's kind of my lower back/hip. It's the side where I have bursitis in my hip but it's not that (although this is aggravating that too). I think I must have done it while doing deadlifts. That's all I can think it would have been. And that was last Wednesday! I've been popping ibuprofen all day. And of course I still haven't done yoga. I need to get my lazy butt down to the basement. I've been busy today (busy being lazy that is). My sister did her first ride on her road bike today - and she has clipless pedals and she didn't fall once! Yay for her! She loved it. :)

Okay ladies - I think starting this week I'm going to try lifting legs only once a week - Mondays. Have any of you done the one body part a week thing? I'm going to see if it makes a difference in my cycling. Maybe my legs are too tired and that's why they burn. Maybe. I'm also going to call the pulmonary doctor. There are 3 or 4 of them here who are on my medical plan. Hooray! They'll probably just tell me how healthy I am like my cardiologist did - which isn't a bad thing!

Geez ....a 57 mile bike ride. I don't feel worthy checking in here any more. Charlotte has me severely depressed about my height and weight. I found out she is 1 inch taller than me and 10 pounds lighter than me. I was already depressed about it and now, I'm beyond depressed.

I've been looking over rotations for 3 hours and I'm severely frustrated. I can't decide on anything and I feel like a blimp. I think I'm PMSing and that's not helping matters. I guess I also feel like because I haven't done Cathe workouts exclusively .....I don't belong here any more. I'm geting really mental right now. I hate when I get like this. This usually happens on Sunday nights.

I guess I'll go without a rotation for this week and try to decide on something. I want to lose weight, gain muscle definition in my legs and arms and flatten my abs. My body needs at least 4-5 cardios a week. I wish I had more time to workout. When I wasn't working and did double aerobics, I was able to lose weight. Working out in the evening is not an option for me because of my severe sleep difficulties. Speaking of which, I best go take something and try to get to sleep if I want to be able to workout in the AM and go to work.

Have good evenings...........thanks for letting me vent. I know I vent a lot around here.
