Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Sat May 20

Cathlete
Hi Ladies -

I'm just getting ready to workout and I didn't want to forget to ask Charlotte this.

Charlotte - What routine are you doing for your butt that you are telling me is working? Is it also good for the legs? Can I please see the routine?

Suz - I went back and looked at previous posts. I'd definitely go to a pulmonologist for Spirometric testing.

I'll be back after my workout to check in.

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Today I go to work for a few hours and then I will do a breakdown circuit w/plyo's inbetween.

Lora,

I just sent you a email of the rotation. I also lost another pound and down to 114. The rotation really is revving up my metabolism. Marietta knows what she is talking about when she made this up for me. I am half way thru with it...going the second time around and then when I get done, I will start with a bulking rotation again.

Charlotte~~

Morning Fitness Maniacs (Ladies) -

I love my Saturday mornings!! Although, it's still RAINING here and will be tomorrow too! I did 40 minutes of Seasun's Straight Up Step followed by Tilak Pile's Altar of the Heart Yoga (75 min).

I followed Seasun better today (than on Wed) and I had fun again. When I got to the third combo, I was totally lost (cuz I've never done the DVD that far). I guess I'll have to start working on that combo if I want to be able to do the entire DVD. This is my FUN Sat morning cardio. My HR was good.

Speaking of HR's....mine used to average in the 140's during cardio and now it's usually in the 150's, but I'm still only going up to 162 or 165 for high intervals. Should I be working at going higher? I ask this because when I tried going higher, it was too much for me and I couldn't do it. I'm confused.

Also, if I seem to be adding a lot of bouncing and some impact to get my HR a bit higher on my lower step, should I start using the higher step?

Altar of the Heart was good this morning. I got this DVD as one of my first yoga DVDs when I first got back into yoga. I wasn't doing down dogs at the time so this only has a few of them but it has a lot of twisting, forward bends and very invigorating different poses. It's sort of slow moving, but I wouldn't call it easy. He does a headstand, side planks, shoulder stand, etc. I did the side planks but I think it aggravated my shoulders. He does take a few moments to sit or lie and breathe in a few places and it was too slow for me, so I fast forwarded those parts. I'm not allowed to do headstands (disc problem) so I skipped that and I'm not supposed to do shoulder stands, but I did a modified one. (ETA: the music is Krishna Das and the it is shot in the Blue Ridge Mountains and at a Church or Temple of some sort up in the mountains). Tilak is a good instructor also.

Okay, I never thought I'd say this, but I actually missed all of the downdogs and faster flowing vinyasa's. I can't believe I actually like doing down dogs now. Maybe it's cuz it's helping my sinuses.

Debbie - tomorrow - I'll try to do Mark's Foundation, but it's 90 minutes and I need to do aerobics and functional fitness tomorrow and I wanted to do some Pilates. Yikes....I'll need to get up early for that!

Charlotte - I got the rotation. Thanks. I just glanced at it, but it's probably too long of workouts for me to make it thru the work week. Maybe I'll have to do a modified version. What's Tonetics and BBM? Okay - just looked at it again and it definitely is too time consuming. I'll have to chop it up. I wonder if it's still worth doing? What do you think? Also - I'll email you later and the music and such. Did you get my emails I sent you from work yesterday....about Josh's lyrics and taking risks, etc.?

Well, I'm off to soak my traps and shoulders. We're going to see The DaVinci Code later. I'll report back. I'll talk to everyone later.
Have great workouts or rest days.

Good Morning All!

I would normally be working out right now, but when I got up this morning I was feeling yesterday's and probably a little of the day before workout. I'm happy about that, but I wanted to work out. So, today is a rest day. I'll do something tomorrow depending on what's still sore.

Lora ~ I've been looking at the Lower Body Bonanza or Butts and Guts. What about one of these rotations.

**Anyone here do these? What kind of results?**

Charlotte ~ Could you e-mail me Marietta's rotation? I'd like to take a look at it too? It's [email protected]. Thanks! Have fun with your workout.

Suz ~ I would go see the specialist. Keep us posted.

Jeanette ~ How was the BBQ?

Christine ~ So, happy to hear you mil is doing fine. Here's to another 10 years and more!

Debbie ~ Have you done any of the workouts from that issue of Oxygen?

Terri ~ Are you going crazy yet??? Hang in there!

Hi to Diane Sue, Nicole, Sabrina, Marietta, Susan (strawberry creams...:9 )!!!

Thanks for the suggestions for the gift for my PT. They were all good ideas, now I have to decide. :) My son has baseball practice early and then I have to run a ton of errands.

Enjoy your Saturday!

I'm back. I had such an incredible workout this morning! I did Slow & Heavy Chest and then S&H Tri's. With chest work I did the chest press and incline chest press with 25's and the flies and incline flies with 20's. I think I'm ready to move up to my 30's next week!!! Cathe does 3 sets of 8 reps of each of these exercises. I added two reps to each first set, one rep to the second and then kept it at 8 for the third. It was exhausting but felt great! I was also able to do the S&H push-ups on my toes with perfect form.

With triceps I used 25 lbs. for overhead press for two sets and then dropped down to 20 for the last set. I can't believe how bad my tri's were burning with this. I used 12's for the lying extensions and 5's for kickbacks. I could hardly get through the kickbacks, it was tough. I also did both sets of the slow dips. Love those! My arms were shaking like crazy!

I am so fried right now! I feel great!

Lora - I didn't know Foundation was 90 minutes long!! Holy moly! I don't think I'd ever have the time to do that entire workout. I think thats overkill, don't you? Geez, I feel great after just a half hour and sometimes I think an hour is too long.

Dallas - No, I haven't done any workouts from Oxygen. I think I may in the future though. I have a real hard time breaking away from Cathe.

Hope you all have great workouts!

Dallas - I did the Butts & Gutts rotation once before and as I've joked before.....and I still have both!! My problem is that I want to work both my upper and lower body. I want to lean out and define my lower body and define and slightly build my upper body. What rotation would be good for that?

Debbie - I just went and looked at the DVDs. Foundation is 85 minutes, Culmination is 98, Flow is 60, Stretch is 60 and Core is about 48. I have several 90 minute ones, but have yet to start working them into my rotation. I do enjoy a full hour or 70 minutes though. ONe reason I really like the Eion Finn DVD is cuz his 30 minute Premix is so well balanced with a large variety of poses. I really like the way you feel when you've done some sun salutations, standing poses, and lots of hip openers, twisting moves and forward bending poses. To get a decent practice in, I feel 45 minutes is good....an hour better and we'll see about the 90 min ones. I'll try to do that tomorrow, but I won't promise. It depends on how early I get up.

Charlotte - How tall are you? I thought you were about my height and if you are, I'm a real heffer....cuz I weigh 125. I'm 1/4 inch short of 5'7"...but I'm very small boned. I did the waist to hip ration test and it's the first thing that says I can lose a few pounds to be optimal weight. All of the charts say I'm okay....but since I'm so small boned, I think the hip to waist test was more accurate for me. I'd like to lose weight...but I get really hungry when I try to cut back on my food.

Hey Ladies,

Today is cardio kicks and plb up and gymstyle floor work. I may also try to do a 3 mile run but will see how my legs feel :)

Dave's show was so much fun last night. I really needed to get out after this BUSY time I am going through. After the show 12 people came up and bought his cd.

I am making a choice to start saying NO. What I took on is way more then I can handle. What with my own biz and life I should have never took on my friends biz. I am actually proud that from now on for awhile I need to put me first. My health has suffered with the long hours and stress. Does that sound selfish?

Dallas-How is your brother?
Charlotte-I want to see the rotation too:) Hey maybe we can all do it together :)
Lora-Let us know how the movie is
Debbie-I have been doing your endurance rotation and love it. I add on to it as I am a maniac :) Needing more upper body days etc.

Ok I will check back in later

Terri

Good morning!

I was going to go for a 2 hour ride outside today, but we have 20mph winds. x( I could go anyway and hate it, or I could save it for tomorrow (which was going to be my rest day). I pulled a muscle or something in my lower back on the right. Maybe from deadlifts??? So I'm thinking of doing yoga. Yes, you heard me right - yoga. AND and I'm going to order Yoga for Happiness when I'm finished here. You all are such a wonderful influence on how to spend money. :) I just think I'm to that age where I need to do more to prevent injuries. And also I'll do anything that will help my hips. Have any of you done any of the Yoga for Surfers? Spending the first 30 years of my life in So. Cal. and then moving to Wyoming - you can imagine how much I miss the ocean. So seeing yoga performed on the beach is VERY tempting to me.

Lora - I think a gal I work with just started doing Seasuns workouts. Someone gave her one and she loves it. She's not much into working out, so I'm really excited for her. Looking forward to the review of your movie. And you are NOT a heffer!!! My sister is your height and weight and I think she's the skinny one.

Dallas - enjoy your rest day - and your DOMS!

Debbie - you motivate me to keep lifting heavier. WELL DONE!!!

Terri - congrats to Dave's success last night! And good for you for being able to start saying no. You are definitely not selfish. Your health, your family and your sanity are more important than anything. And then of course there's your business. Stay strong. I think people will respect you for your honesty in saying no.

Have a great day everyone. I'll try to report back about my yoga experience (the only one I have is The Firm Power Yoga).

Suz

ETA: Charlotte - I hope you don't work too hard. And hello to all who follow.

Good morning maniacs:

Slept in a bit so I was sore/stiff when I got up so decided to do the full version of Eoin Finn's PY4H. Feel much better now. I'll be doing some yardwork later and then hopefully DH and I will take the dogs out to the woods and look for a place to go camping next weekend. We'll be taking the camp trailer. I have the century ride next Saturday too, but will drive back to the camp spot when I'm done. That's what I did last year and it worked out fine.

Last nights family BBQ was great! I ate too much, of course, but it was lots of fun, took loads of pictures too.

Charlotte, way to go on being down a pound, though you're pretty little anyway. Always good when the metabolism is working right. Enjoy it while you're young as it's gotten harder as I age.

Lora, I love my Saturdays too as I can be more leisurely in my workouts and not have to watch the clock. Glad you enjoyed the yoga. My HR is always on the lower side, on the bike if I'm in the 160's, I'm definitely feeling it! Thanks again for the PY4H recommendation. I just love the hip opener work. Makes such a huge difference in how I feel. A heifer? Not even close! I'm sure you look great, but I know the feeling of wanting to look better or lose the flab here or there. Always something to improve upon.

Dallas, enjoy your rest day. The BBQ was wonderful, our family is pretty close and we all enjoy get togethers so much. I still have my folks and they are in good health so we cherish all of our time with them.

Debbie, holy cow woman! You are strong, strong, strong!!!! Maybe someday for me? Makes me want to really get after it tonite when I do the Bowflex with DH. 90 minutes for yoga sounds like a lot, but this mornings yoga was 80 or 90 minutes long and it was very, very nice. Not on a work morning, but on a Saturday. Sometimes it takes me a long time to relax.

Terry, glad the show went well. Enjoy your workout today. Yep, saying NO is something that is hard for some people and for others, that's all they ever say. Finding balance can be sooo tough.

Suz, sorry about the wind today :(. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. My ride tomorrow is not supposed to have great weather, but we really need to get the miles in anyway. I hope you enjoy the yoga, I needed it today. My hips feel so much better already. I too think you should see a pulmonary dr. Do you have one in your town? Wonder if they can do a VO2 max test like I've seen them do to cyclists on TV, where you are pedaling on a stationary bike and you're breathing through a mask and they prick your finger to test the blood for lactic acid or whatever they test for. Believe me, I'm not a doctor! Just don't know what's available for testing. Know you will get to the heart of it. You train sooo hard, you should be feeling good on your rides. If I rode with the fast guys when they really want to hammer, no way in the world could I keep up for long, my whole body'd be burning, then I'd get blown right off the back. How do you feel when you ride at less intensity, like averaging 15 to 16 mph? Do you feel good then?

Hope the yoga is good for you.

Good afernoon,
This mornings workout was Turbo Jam Fat Blaster, 1 time and then 2 turbos, then Cardio Pary 2 cardio only. I used the weighted gloves for TJ Fat blaster, I followed this with Cathe's Boot Camp Premix 2 times and then Ab Jam standing work w/ weighted gloves. I played with Yoga Booty Ballet Burlesque just for a stretch limbering workout. DH and I have a graduation barbeque to go to for friends. I will check back later.

Terri - I'm glad you like my Endurance Rotation. Add to it as much as you like, you Maniac! LOL!

I just printed out a recipe for a protein shake that sounds really good so I thought I'd share:

One scoop of protein power w/ 1 cup water (or whatever the directions say). 1 package of sugar free jello (I hear orange is the best, tastes like a creamsicle.) 5 ice cubes. Blend it all up and enjoy. I want to try this so bad but I HATE anything that says "sugar free" because I know it has that nasty Splenda or aspartame in it. Why can't anyone find a sweetener that won't kill you in 10 years????

Just thought I'd pop in to say that we didn't like the movie. We thought it was boring and not done well and stupid and we walked out. I sort of thought I wouldn't like it when I first heard what it was about, but then I heard about the book being so popular, so I thought it might be a good movie. I don't know if I just had problems with what they were saying because of my strong faith and beliefs.......or what. Maybe the story got better, but we didn't feel like wasting our time with it. I'm sorry if you liked the book. I don't want to offend anyone. Just being honest.

Anyone (yoga ladies) ever hear of this guy? or his practices? Here's the link from VF.

Here's his credentials. He sounds amazing. It sounds like a practice that might be really good for my shoulders, etc.

Of course, I'll probably order these. He's sort of cute also! That never hurts. I checked out the trailer on the Shiva DVD. He's in awesome shape.

Sorry you didn't like the movie, Lora. We are going to go see it next weekend. We went this afternoon and seen Poseiden, it was really good. I liked it. I love Kurt Russell. The place was PACKED. They must have been all there to see the Divinci Code because the movie we seen had all of 6 people in the theatre.

Debbie - I hope you like it more than we did.

I can't remember who asked about the Trance Dance Clip with Shiva Rea, but this thread at VF says the clip to watch is on Amazon.com

Diana Sue - Do you still watch Charmed? I think I remember you saying you did a while ago. I'm so bummed that it's going to be ending in a couple of episodes. It's one of the very few shows I watch on TV.

Good evening,
We went to a fitness equipment store after the graduation party. We purchased me a knee raise tower. It was a used one that sells for $800 dollars new. It came from a Fitness center that closed down. DH is going back with the truck to pick it up. Tomorrow is my Grandson's birthday party here. I am not sure if I will take a rest day tomorrow. I have to get up really early Monday to go to the dentist to get a crown. Not something I am looking forward to.

Lora, yes I still watch charmed. It is the only show I have went
out of my way to watch while DH was gone. I used to keep up with Smallville as well. DH bought a set of that series and one of charmed for me. I saw one of Shiva Rea's yoga dvds on Target.com. I went to the store and they didn't have it. I was hoping to just go buy it.
