Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Finally Friday June 23

Cathlete
Morning Fit Ladies -

Yay....It's finally Friday. I wish every day was a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Surely -- I can endure 1 day of abuse at work.

This morning I did Body Sizzle 1 with Tracy Hess (55 min) followed by only a very brief bout of Gliding Cardio with Mindy (only about 15 min - cuz I ran out of time).

I previewed this DVD last night and didn't think I'd like it cuz they use wimpy weights and the moves were VERY different than anything I've done before, but it actually felt pretty effective. When I first ordered these, I thought they'd be similar to the Jari Love's, but they are a lot more like Slim Series only with different moves and with no cardio thrown in. The warmup is pretty long (10 min?) and then you do legs on a 8-10" step with light weights and very, very high reps. Legs got a good burn and then you drop the weights and move into power over the step (like step aerobic squats). Then it was on to chest, shoulders, biceps and triceps, as well as abs. Why do so many instructors leave lats out (except for push ups....lats were not done). Most all of the moves are different than what I normally do. I've actually never seen biceps worked the way she did them. Shoulders are done differently also. The girls over at VF said that her shoulder work is excellent for people with rounded shouders (the reason I bought these - as I have extremely rounded shoulders from typing my entire life).

The downsides of this DVD were poor production quality. It actually appears to be a shoot of a live class. Unknown instructor (at least to me) and if you have a problem with overweight people being in the class.....you wouldn't like this. Although, there are all sorts of people in the class. The music is very soft and not that good. I played my own music. Tracy was okay as an instructor.

All of this talk about migraines - I had a slight one yesterday and now it's a bit worse this morning. My low back is hurting also. I think I may start again. This every 2 weeks is not going to get it with me!! Darned hormones. I really wouldn't care so much if I didn't get the migraines with it.

Have great workouts everyone. I'll try to check in from work....but my boss has been watching me like a hawk to see if I'm on the computer. She's going on vacation for part of next week and part of the following week.

ETA: Charlotte - your CD's are all ready and packed up. They will go out either tomorrow or Monday. Here's a few more Buckcherry pics for you. The first 2 are the guitar players and of course, I couldn't leave Joshie out! I'm already starting to get excited about the concert next month.

Morning All!

Thought I'd do a pre-check in because I know it will get too busy later.

Yesterday, I was on a roll with my house. I only got to CTX Kickbox because of it. Today, I plan on doing some cardio today (probably the treadmill...gave it a break this week) and I'll work legs. I think the rotation called for Step Fit, but I don't have that one. I'm still not doing step right now anyway.

We stayed up until 11P with the kids watching Eight Below. They're still sleeping. Hopefully I'll get it all in before the wake up for breakfast.

Lora ~ How did you hear about Tracy Sizzle now? ETA: LOL! Tracy Hess!! I'm not awake yet! I thought I'd leave how I originally wrote it for a laugh!:7 :+

Hi to all who follow!

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Yesterday I rode my bike for about 4-5 miles only just to warm up my legs for lowmax and then did lowmax. Later on in the afternoon, went into my 100 degree sunroom to do triceps/biceps, even my water soon became warm! GOSH! I did very well with my workouts and was pleased. Went to the pool thereafter again and got thrown in by my dd's friend just as we were about to leave so I am driving in the car with wet bottoms on. Then later on after that, went to church to take my children to the youth group and played two rounds of basketball with the guys. DD did not want to play...ttom and stayed with her boyfriend. There was this one guy there playing basketball that kept messing with me by making noises and calling my name everytime I tried to make a shot and irritated me and I told him about it!!!!! He was making some dumb jokes to that I did not get...so whatever.

Today my triceps are fried and was thinking of just doing a total body workout so not sure which one I am going to do today and will leave tricep work out of whichever I do.

Lora,

I like the first picture the best. Josh does not look good in that last picture, but I have seen him look better. I got to remember to get the new Seether cd when it comes out, but I am not a big fan of acoustic stuff, just like the "live" stuff either, but I will take it cuz it is Seether afterall...LOL! Please email me, I got to send you something for the cd's.

Suz,

I heard you hate your triceps? Do you have the slow and heavy series of triceps/biceps? That is a good one for your triceps, in my opinion. You can also do seated tricep presses (grasp a loaded barbell with hands close together and raise the bar straight up overhead with your arms locked out). Not sure what you can do with your bowflex, but on my smith machine I do reverse pressdowns for triceps with 60#. You can do one arm tricep extensions too by sitting on a bench, take a db in one hand and hold it extended overhead. Keep your elbows close to your head, lower the db down in an arc behind your head, not behind the shoulder as far as you can. Do dips with a loaded barbell in your lap with your legs fixed on the edge of a chair...ooh la la...that will bite! Try 50#, if you can! }( Then there is the fixed bar triceps extensions where you use a horizontal bar positioned at about the waist height, grasp the bar with an overhand grip, hands about shoulder width apart. Lock your arms out to support your weight, then move your feet back until you are in a semi "push up" position above the bar. Bend your arms and lower your body so that your head comes down below and under the bar as far as possible. When you feel the maximum stretch in your tri's, press forward with your arms and raise yourself back to the starting position.

Charlotte - gimme a break....I'm at work. I'll find one at home later!! I'll go to the Ladies Thread!! (who's looking at his face any way???? LOL)

Dallas - found out about Body Sizzle's on Videofitness - those ladies are fierce enablers.

This morning I worked my back doing Gym Style Back. I started with my pull-ups and did 5 (can't seem to get to 6 yet) and then I took a few minutes break, did 4 more and then 4 more again (those are up from 3). I love GS Back, all my favorite exercises are in this one workout. I added another set of pull-overs and used 30 lbs for the first two sets and then used 25 lbs for the 3rd set. I added four sets of shrugs as well, using 25 lbs. in each hand. Love doing those!

Then I did Core Max #3. I like this ab work but once she gets on the ball I don't feel much of the exercises. Not sure why.

Hope you all have great workouts. Hope this rain stops soon. Our bathroom flooded yesterday.

Hi Ladies!

I thought I would pop in and see what was going on since I have not checked in in a long time.

Lora--You are always finding new workouts! I like getting the previews!!

Dallas--How is your summer going? What have you been up to? Did the kids like Eight Below?

Charlotte--Looks like you have been busy! How can you workout when it is that hot? I would pass out.

Terri--Have a great weekend!

Susan--How are you? How are the kids?

Marietta--How are you lady?? I miss talking to you!

Nicole--How are the baseball games going?

Hi to everyone else, I know there are a lot of new people on this thread now!

Have a great day!

Sabrina

Sabrina ~ How are you?!!?!? Where have you been?! Glad to see you around! We were just saying that we missed you. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICOLE!!! While I working out it dawned on me. Hope you have a wonderful day!

I ended up doing the treadmill for an hour (running for 45 minutes and walking on an incline for the rest). I then did a Tony Horton DVD. I can't remember the name of it. It was a 30 minute leg workout. I burned 180 calories in 30 minutes! He IS goofy. He even says he is in the video. LOL! I won that one on ebay a long time ago and decided to give it a try. Today, was a good calorie burner. Overall, I burned over 600 calories. Woo hoo!! I also did 15 minutes of Ab Hits. I don't like planks! I did them anyway. }(

It's going to be a beautiful day here.

Have a good one everyone!

Hi Dallas!

I have been busy.

Planning the Disney trip for one. We changed our date from December to September 29- October 6 and we are staying at the Polynesian now. We took advantage of the free dining plan. Maybe in the next couple years we will go at Christmas since that is when I really really want to go.

We have also been working on getting a loan for an addition to the house. I am going to have my own workout room. We are adding a second floor above the garage (we have a ranch style house so there is no second floor so we have to put in stairs). We sign the papers today and the construction starts in September. I think we are talking around 660 sq ft. and that includes the bathroom we are putting up there too and the stair space.

The boys are driving me crazy too! How are your kids??

Good Morning,
I thought I would check in before I shower since I have so many things to do today. I started with the treamill 1.5 miles, I then did Hard Core Ext. Hi Lo intervals cardio only stopping at the Kick Max segment, then SJP step portion, Super sets upper, GS timesaver shoulders and Biceps Str.. I hope I get my car back today. They said I would yesterday, but they keep coming up with defective alternators. They gave me a loner car though and it is still under warranty. I will check back later.

Nicole, have a HAPPY birthday!!

Hi to everyone,
Diane Sue

Hi Sabrina!! Happy Birthday Nicole.

Diana Sue - sorry...you asked about my eye the other day and I forgot to answer. My eye is okay from being poked, but I'm still having problems with the other condition for which I went to the Retina doctor. I'm not allowed to wear my contacts yet either.

ETA: I can't believe I'm already starting to get sore from that workout this morning.

Good Afternoon!!

I know you guys thought you wouldn't hear from me today!! No such luck. I'm off work today but I worked out like nobody's business this morning.

First I ran 7.5 miles on my treadmill then I ate breakfast and walked a couple of more miles and did biceps and triceps.

My dh and I are going away for the weekend to celebrate our anniversay so I thought I'd better get in my workouts.

Hi Sabrina....wonderful to hear from you. Miss you so much!!!!! Please come back to see us more often.

Sounds like an awesome workout you did this morning Lora...I need to look into that one!

I've got to get myself ready to go so I can't address everyone...

Still thinking about you Terri and hoping each day gets a little better for you.

Talk to you guys later!!

Good morning ladies!

It's a BEAUTIFUL day here. No wind yet! Hooray!!! My girlfriend and I rode this morning. It was pretty nice - just a little wind but nothing like lately. It's supposed to pick up, but we'll see. And I didn't wake up with a migraine. Hooray!!! I have a little bit of a headache but not migraine strength.

Tonight we have to go to some party at some friends house. We weren't going to go but apparently one of our State Senators is going to be there so they wanted as many people to make it as possible. It's actually a gathering for a woman who is running for Secretary of State. Our police chief (DH's boss) is also running for Senate, so he'll be there doing his thing too. I hate political stuff (and I have a degree in political science!). But I love the chief's wife and I'm sure there will be other people there I haven't seen since I got out of that whole world. :)

Charlotte - thanks for all the tricep ideas. For some reason that is an area that I just can't get toned up. I HATE my triceps. I don't have the S&H series. Do you think that's better than GS if I were only to get one?

Nicole - Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diane Sue - I hope you get your car back soon!

Lora - sounds like an interesting workout. Don't get caught on the comptuer!!!

Hey Marietta - Happy Anniversary! Awesome workout!!!

I'm off to watch kids over the lunch hour. Yesterday these two ADORABLE little girls told me about 10 sad animal stories between them. Not sure if they were all true!

Happy Anniversary Marietta!!! How many years? Can I be nosey and ask where you are going for the weekend? Have a great time!!

I will try and check in more often, I promise. You can always email me too don't forget!!

Good morning,
I have tons to do today so need to get a move on. DH called and he blew a radiator hose on his way to work this morning so I need to run by the parts store (oh joy) and get a hose and some antifreeze for him and run it out to his work site before he gets off work. I hate the parts store. They always ask me if it's a male or female and use words I just don't get. Hopefully a radiator hose will be easy (you'd think).

Today's workout was ME shoulders (2 times) and SJP shoulders (from Timesavers). Mine were cooked! I then did Cathe's Body Fusion Step #1 just to move my legs a little and then Yoga Crunch. Last evening did a bike ride with 3 other ladies. It was a fairly easy spin as I don't need fatigued legs for my century tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my century ride. I'm preparing with lots of water today, taking a couple of endurolytes before going to bed and will stay on the hydration tomorrow with my Camelbak water, sports drink and more endurolytes every couple of hours plus eating lightly at the rest stops every 15 miles.

Lora, glad to see you posting, thanks for the review this morning. Hope your headaches start getting better and glad your poked eye is better too.

Dallas, I like CTX Kickbox, really like all of CTX. It's a gem. DH and I saw 8 Below when it came out. We enjoyed it.

Charlotte, good workout yesterday. Yep, I've got to quit babying my legs so much before bike rides. 100 degrees in the sunroom, yikes! I can just picture you playing basketball.

Debbie, you are so strong. Way to go on the pull ups. I have no idea if I can even do one. I have memories of the Presidential Fitness tests we used to do in High School. None of the girls could ever do a pull up. Think we had to do some kind of "hang" instead. Sorry about the bathroom flooding. Hope it can be repaired soon.

Dallas, sounds like a great workout. I have a Power Half Hour workout that I need to do sometime. I've only previewed it. Wow, 600 calories!

Hi Sabrine, glad you could check in. The addition sounds great. I'd love a workout room. Maybe someday.

Diane Sue, hope you get the car fixed soon. I hate car problems, and poor DH had a blown radiator hose this morning on his way to work. He's pretty handy and can fix stuff like that, but the computerized stuff, that really gets him. Glad your DH is not so sore.

Marietta, your day off today too? You got a good run in. The most I ever ran was 4 miles last year. Haven't done it since. Need to, but will start back slowly. Have a great time with DH on your anniversary trip. How many years? My DH and I will celebrate 27 in July.

Happy, Happy Birthday Nicole!!! Hope it's a nice one for you.

Suz, re: triceps, I don't really like doing them on the Bowflex. I like the feel of free weights better. Doing the Pyramid DVD is good, I've actually been able to finally go up in weights on this one. My triceps are not my problem area, believe me I have other areas that are. My mom has really saggy triceps (batwings) and I want to avoid me getting those. I finally have the cut without even flexing, but a day of retaining water will blow all that away. Now my thighs, they need much, much work. You'd think that you could get rid of those with bike riding, but not for me. Hate to think what they'd be without the cycling. Hope you get a good ride in. Enjoy your evening out.

Must run, will post more later, I have a TON of things to do.

Jeanette

Lora,

Oh yeah! :9 :p

Marietta,

Hope you have a good weekend, girl! 7.5 miles...YIKES!

Suz,

I don't have the GS series so I can't say for sure. All I know is that the slow and heavy tri's/bi's is well worth it! I think you should get that one, jmho.

Nicole,

Happy Birthday to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you have a great day!

Netta and Diane Sue,

Hope the car issues resolve themselves soon for you both!

Sabrina,

So nice to hear from you again! You are the Vacation Queen!!!! Love hearing all the good news from you!!!! WOO HOO!!!!
