Hi,
Hope everyone is doing well. I just purchased the Hardcore DVD set and I'm very excited to get started. Do you have an idea how long the shipping is?
Is it neccessary to purchase barbell and weight plates right away? I just bought a step. I also have various dumbbells at home.

Thanks!

JR

I've always had fast shipping from Cathe.com! 5 Days at the most and that usually includes a Sunday, so really, 4 business days. Not bad living in the middle of no where in the middle of the country.

As far as Barbells, you actually don't need any. I for the longest time did The hardcore series and subsequently every Cathe workout without the barbell. I will say a barbell helps to dig a little deeper in moves like squats and lunges and makes back rows easier. But personally, I hate and I do mean HATE digging my barbell and plates out every time and changing plates during the workouts. It also made some of my injuries worse (hip). I stick to dumbbells and they worked well for me. Presurgery I did only Gym Styles and Muscle Max for strength workouts (no GS Legs as I was in Physical Therapy for lower back and hip injuries). In 3 months I dropped 2 sizes and something like 15-20 inches and I only used dumbbells and bands.

Have fun and get your sweat on!

Wow, you got great results! Good for you! I'm looking forward to losing extra belly fat and more importantly build muscles.
Definitely need a new pair of cross trainers!

Hi JR,

I love, love Hardcore! But I must give you my honest opinion regarding the barbell. I went without a barbell until recently. I was doing Cathe's w/o's without them, substituting w/dumbell's. I broke down, I could not take it any longer. I really wanted a barbell! For me personally, it was a wonderful investment. It gives a whole new dimension to weight work. To squat, lunge and curl with a barbell, something about it, makes you feel like a champ! Not to mention my arms & legs are getting more definition. But that just my two cents. Some people just use dumbell's and are fine with it and get great results too.

Good luck! I'm sure you are gonna love it! Keep us posted :)

I got sick of changing the plates on my barbell, so I splurged and bought 3 body bars for the lower weights (15, 18, and 24). I am so happy now with what I have. I do have to change the barbell sometimes if I want a different heavy weight, but at least I can just grab one of the body bars for lower weights. I love the body bars too because they are padded. I'm glad I splurged.

Ditto what Natasha said about the barbell! I, too, went without a barbell for a while. About 4 years ago I asked for the Troy Lite barbell for Christmas. Here's the link: http://fitness1st.com/Troy-Bars.html It is kind of a pain to get it set up initially at the beginning of a workout (I have to store mine under the couch and in a nearby trunk), but once I get going I don't even notice the time it takes to change weights between different exercises. Cathe does a real good job of allowing you to rest a little during those weight changes. ;) I'm sure there are other barbells out there that are better or equal to this one. I wanted to use what Cathe used though, so that's why I chose this one. Just my .02! PS - love the hardcore series! I own them all, except for stretch max, and they're all wonderful. You will definitely get toned and defined!

Thanks ladies!
It seems the barbell is used in many of Cathe's workouts, so it's a senible investment. I can't wait for the DVDs to arrive. I haven't been excited about working out in awhile. :p
What do you think about the other equipment in this series? Medicine ball, stability ball? High step?
