Hallelujah!!!

Congrats to your dd. My twins had a ton of feeding issues when they were younger. They had the added problem with chewing and swallowing. Most of their foods needed to be pureed. They are still slim, but the doctors are no longer concerned. It is what it is.

They did not like eating processed foods, not even canned tomato sauce. Once I stopped fixating on calories, I focused on balanced meals. So, I would devote a weekend day to making meals from scratch for the rest of the week. Then I would freeze it in meal sized portions.

They liked: stuffed peppers; white cream based soups with fish, potatoes, herbs and lemon; avocado chicken dishes; shepherd pies (hamburger or veal, mashed potatoes, cheese, tomato based or gravy sauce), soy based ice cream from the health food store (loaded with calories), sweet potatoes or yams loaded with butter and brown sugar sauce, pepper steak, and zucchini couscous with a tomato based sauce sprinkled with cheese. To most of the dishes, I added extra fish oil or cream. I bought the fish oil from the health food store. I can't remember the name. Anyhow, it had an earthy taste to it. It went well with vegetables, casseroles and soups.

Could you speak with the school about your daughters medical needs. Maybe, they could work with you as far as access to a microwave. My daughters ate 3 meals a day plus snacks. They also drank a glass of water an hour before each meal. I found this helped stretch their stomachs for food and prep their digestive system.

You must be doing a great job! She's gaining weight. Hugs!!! It's not easy when children have a difficult time gaining weight. Hopefully, the doctors and nurses haven't made you feel like a terrible mother.

Best wishes!
Wendy

Thanks Wendy! No, thankfully nobody has made me feel like a terrible mother. I hope that didn't happen to you!

She does sometimes take something in a Thermos, like mac 'n' cheese or other kind of pasta. I hadn't thought about microwave access, but maybe that would help too. Some of the teachers have microwaves in their classrooms. Maybe I could arrange something there.

Hi Shelly, I have the same problem with my DS when he is on his ADHD meds. He is 8, 4'6", 55 lbs. and he brings home a full lunch box from school every day. Over the weekend he is not on his meds and he eats like crazy, but he is still very skinny.

One thing that I like to make that gets him to eat after school is crockpot applesauce. I use about 10 Macintoch apples chopped up and sprinkled with about 1-2 Tbs. cinnamon. Cook 3 hrs. on high, then on low for 2 hrs. He loves to eat it with granola and sunflower seeds.

HTH Good luck.
