Just read an article from the Salt Lake Tribune about their FFs deployed in LA--basically it said their role is solely "community relations," meaning they're doing lots of really critical things like handing out flyers & taking sexual harassment classes.
OK I know I'm really being selfish about all this, but if the BF is gonna be there for 16 days I'd much rather have him learning about sexual harassment than treading through contaminated waters & potentially meeting up with some desperate lunatic with a sawed off shotgun.
Of course the FFs there are incredibly frustrated when they feel they could be doing true rescue activities & are being forced to do things that......well, let's face it, things that I could do myself without any training. And I wish they could be doing that stuff, really I do, just not my BF.
I am now semi-relieved. I'll be totally relieved when he's back safe & sound.
