Hair guestion????

I dont know if you've heard the brand philosphy, but they have a line out for hair called sheer splendor it is awesome! you can find it on philosphy.com

For frizzies I use Frizz Ease Secret weapon. It's like a really light styling cream that I use after I blow my hair dry. For wet hair after the shower I use Frizz Ease extra strength serum. Notice a trend here? LOL. I swear by these two things. Been using them for years!

I use a hair straightening iron. I don't straighten the whole mess, just my bangs and the top layer of hair, so it doesn't bush out all over the place. Sounds weird, but it works. I've never had any luck with the gels and other "hair goop."

I use Straight Aero by Sexy Hair. It really does a good job. It depends on how curly your hair is and how straight you want it. No product will get hair pin straight, but some will take out curl and remove the friz. Then if you want it really straight you have to flat iron it.

Work with your curls! I spent years straightening my hair, fighting that natural curl and regret it.

Now I use "Ringlet" by Redken for defining my curl and eliminating any frizz. I dry my hair with a diffuser. This combination produces nice loose curl with no frizz.... a very easy style to maintain!

I use a coctail of various styling products, but my staple is Phytospecific Beauty Styling Creme. The stuff is miraculous. Oh & a deep condition with heat once a week helps.

Typically I use a silicone gloss by Rusk right when I get out of the shower, wrap my hair in a towel while I moisturize, etc., unwrap my hair & put on the Phyto, scrunch a little & put on a spray gloss (again by Rusk). Then I do my makeup & get dressed while my hair air dries. Then about 5 minutes of blow drying with a diffuser.

What's most important to avoid frizzies is keeping your hair healthy. Things you should avoid: rubbing your hair with a towel (creates friction & hair damage), any kind of heated styling tools (especially a flat iron, I read in Paula Begoun's book that you literally boil your hair shaft with a flat iron), keeping the hair dryer in one spot when you dry your hair and, of course, sun exposure (just like skin, probably the most damaging thing to hair).

I agree with Jeanne Marie. After almost 44 years of curls, I'm finally learning (almost) to embrace my curls most of the time. I have read a lot on naturallycurly.com. They have forums where people talk about what works best for them. Through that site, I found a great product by Ouidad - the curl exptert (www.ouidad.com). Her stuff is pretty expensive, but it's fabulous. I try to use it about 75% of the time and switch off with other stuff the rest of the time just for the cost factor. But I think my hair's healthier than it's ever been since using her products.

Also, LauraMax gave you some great advice on caring for curly hair. The only thing that Ouidad would disagree with is putting a towel on your hair b/c it disturbs the curl pattern (therefore causing frizz). But I still use a towel. I use a diffuser for about 3-4 minutes as well.

Good luck!

Let's hear it for curly girls :D Another thing to try: don't use shampoo on curly hair. I've read in several books that shampoo just destroys curls, which tend to be dry anyway. The alternative, and the one I do, is to put your conditioner in and then scrub your scalp, which will clean it without drying.

The curl pattern! LOL!

I like Ouidad also--their shampoos & conditioners. They're styling products aren't quite heavy enough for my frizz level.

I did go to her salon when I first moved near NYC. It was the worst haircut I ever had. I mean, it was really really bad & of course it cost me over $150. I was there for two hours. TWO HOURS to trim & style long, unlayered curly hair. Excuse me, styling my hair should not take more than like ten minutes!

That said, they have some great products, but I'm very skeptical about Ms. Ouidad's hair advice & philosophy.
