Gym Styles or P90X

Hi there. I would like to know if anyone could break down the differences and/or similarities between these programs.

My husband is interested in lifting weights with me. I need to jump on his enthusiasm! He likes the look of the P90X program but is willing to do GS. He knows Cathe very well from watching me workout while he sits on the couch and eats!! A

ctually, he's loves to run. He lifts weights now and then but never sticks with it. He's a cardio kinda guy whereas I prefer to lift weights and hate to run. I would like to spend the cash on something we will both get the most benefit from. Thanks for any input.

Michelle

p.s. I am able to lift what Cathe lifts and then some on most of the weight DVDs I have if that matters.

if your able to lift what Cathe does, move on to more advanced which would clearly be p90x
i like to do,for example,p90x shoulders and arms and next day do plyometrics(tough cardio), and next day coresynergistics, and then chest/back
but,you could compromise by doing Cathe bootcamp or circuitmax which is total body and cardio. i think those are her only ones like that.
she is better for cardio while Tony is better for weights, though plyometrics gives you a good sweat!

Michelle...I feel guys might like P90X better than a Cathe. P90X is what guys do when they go to a gym. Cathe's GS Styles are great workouts (I have them all anyway) But in my opinion P90X is geared a bit more for men...and if he will work out with you...I seriously envy you...:)

P90X is more "male friendly" but the Gym Styles will challenge a man as well. The only difference is Gym Styles are lead by beautiful women lifting heavy weight and P90x has some men in it, there's gloating, boasting, high 5's and the music is all electric guitar. P90x has a ton of push-ups and pull-ups. Cathe has no pull-ups.

It's a matter of personal preferance, really...on style, set, music.

All things consider, I prefer Cathe and her Gym Styles. My opinion is a minority around here. I am one of the few who doesn't care for p90x. I had excellent results but I was counting the days until the rotation was over and I was back with Cathe! I prefer her style, set and music.

I agree, both of these programs are great but have very different styles... so it really depends. I would think P90X would be more appealing to men.

I also have both, and I like them both for different reasons. The P90X rotation is a full 13 week rotation (of which I just completed week 12), so if you're looking for a good rotation to keep you two working out together for 13 weeks, this might be good for you. It is more of a guy workout, but I like Tony and his off-the-wall sense of humor. But I will admit, I'm looking forward to lifting weights again as opposed to push ups and pull ups.

On the other hand, if DH likes to run, then the GS might fit his schedule better. He can do them three times a week and run the other days. Add some core work in there and you have a wonderful rotation in and of itself. Maybe get the GS and SH so that you can do a 3 week rotation of GS followed by a 3 week rotation of SH with a week recovery in between (no real heavy lifting).

Seriously - for the most part you're asking if you should get a BMW or Mercedes. They're both great cars, but which style suits you better? Have fun and good luck!

Hey ladies!

Thanks for the input. It's so hard for me to consider anything other than Cathe. I wish I could get them both! I may go at this from a financial perspective. I have everything I need for Cathe's series but would have to buy some things for the P90X. I'll have him read this thread, watch Cathe's clips and let him decide.

Thanks again!

Michelle
