GS Legs...do you do exercises on back?

Hi,

Just wondering if any other preggo ladies do the GS legs DVD. If so, do you skip the exercises where you're on your back i.e. rollouts, the ball and band floor portion?

I'm 21 weeks today and have been doing this DVD for 3 weeks, maybe 1-2X a week. When I get to these I do some of the exercises for 30 seconds and then sit up or stand and pause my player while my blood reflows. Then I'll continue with the next exercise. The problem is that a couple of them are in a row, so I worry that this might be too much, even with a break in between.

I LOVE the results I'm getting with this DVD but I don't want to overdo it.

Any thoughts? I'd love to hear from others.

Thanks!!!

Hi CG,

I am not quite as far along as you are - I'm a tad over 19 weeks - but I do the moves where you're on your back. My doc said that if you're exercising being on your back for 20 minutes is okay (unless you feel yucky, of course). I do the moves straight through w/no problem, but if you feel dizzy or anything breaks are always good :) Also, if this matters, I am 5' 3" and have gained about 13 lbs ... I am short waisted, so I already have a huge bump.

I love GS Legs, too. I'm also hoping to do a lot of my labor standing/squatting, so working on my leg strength will hopefully come in handy.

Hey Arancini,

Thanks for the reassurance, I was hoping you'd respond. I remembered that you were doing the GS series and pretty close to my due date. I'm relieved to hear what your doctor said -- that's good news! I've felt fine all along, just being extra paranoid and careful...as usual. :)

So that's great that you're planning on doing lots of standing and squatting during labor. Do you already have a birth plan? I'm in the process of putting mine together now. I'm happy that I have an awesome midwife and will be choosing a doctor for backup. Are you working with a mid-wife, doctor, doula or a combination? Just curious.

Thanks again for the encouraging info. Best of health to you and your baby!

Keep in touch,

-CG

Hi CG,

How is the birth plan going? I became really close to my doc while ttc (the first 2 didn't stick - just bad luck), so I'm not going to have a midwife. I'll be delivering at a birth center attached to a hospital - so it may be the best of both worlds. I can't quite decide on whether or not I will use a doula. There are a lot of experienced people at the center, so I might not need to bring somebody else ... but it would be nice to have a doula I had worked with before the birth who knew what approach I wanted to use.

As for pain meds, I'm planning on seeing what happens. I would prefer to skip them (so I can have more control over pushing and my boy can be more alert) - but if I can't, I'm thinking of using a walking epi.

Take care & keep me posted!

me too! i'm hoping my running and lower body weight training will help me through this. my legs are super strong (thanks cathe and running!) so i feel good about squatting during labor.

all those years of PS sit n' stands have to come in handy! :)

good luck to you!
