I am 26 weeks pregnant and am having groin/ inner thigh pain. I have taken 4 weeks off from walking and step. I am doing some stretching and strengthening excersises. Has anyone had this pain before and if so, how much longer can I anticipate being out. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Rhonda,
The pain you describe is pretty common due to your body preparing you for labor. I am sure Autumn or the other ladies could give you more technical details. But, just wanted to say, hang in there. I was having the same pain around 26 weeks and this week it has just started to get better (I am 31 weeks now).

My nurse practitioner suggested getting a V-strap support belt. I have not tried it, but, wonder if it would help. The belt looks like a pair of underwear, she tells me.

To be on the safe side, if I were you I would bring it up with your doctor on your next visit. The pain you describe could be a vaginal infection as well.

Also, I just recently tried the DVD "Prenatal Yoga" with Shiva Rea. It has actually helped with all the aches and pains.

Best of luck!

When I was pregnant (my baby is now nearly two years old) I had constant groin pain during the last trimester. I bought a "belly bra" which looks kind of like a one piece swimming costume but supports at the bottom of the belly. From the minute I tried it on, it was instant relief! I washed it every evening as I couldn't bear a day without it. It was quite expensive but worth every cent. If you can find one of these, I highly recommend it. BTW I was able to exercise vigorously right through to delivery.

Best of luck, Meg

Hi Rhonda

I experienced groin pain at around 26 weeks too, this pain which went slightly down my inner thigh also gradually got worse as my pregnancy progressed. When I eventually mentioned it at a hospital appointment and described all my symptoms, ie clunking sounds coming from that area when turning over in bed or walking up stairs, I was diagnosed with SPD (symphisis pubis dysfunction). I was referred to a physio but ended up on crutches as my symptoms got worse. I've now had the baby and as is usual with this condition, the symptoms have subsided considerably. I still get the odd twinge from time to time but until the hormone, Relaxin, has left my body completely, then I could still experience symptoms for a while to come. I've just started exercising again, however and so far so good!

It's worth getting checked out properly. If it is SPD then certain exercise can make the condition worse. Its a condition your midwife needs to be aware of for a vaginal delivery.

Hope your condition clears up pdq, regardless!
