Hi,

After 14 years and 5 kids my husband will finally be graduating on May 19th for his engineering degree. I have no clue what to give him as a gift! I'm a stay at home mom who does childcare from my home and dont have a whole lot of money that I could spend, but still want to give him something special. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First of all, I think that's incredible that he continued to pursue his degree with working, having children, etc. It could not have been easy for both of you so kudos!

This may be really corny but after years of hard work juggling all of that, what do you think about having someone take your children for the night (out of your house) and you treat him like a King for the evening. A nice meal, whatever movie he wants to watch, a massage, breakfast in bed, etc.

I have 4 children and this past year for my husband's birthday and days of trying to figure out what to get him that I hadn't already gotten him before, golf certificates, clothes, etc., plus he works long hours through the week so I wanted to give him the gift of total relaxation. He really enjoyed it and told me that it was better than anything I could have "bought."

I like Debbie's idea.

Here's another that wouldn't cost a lot:

When I was first hired as a teacher, an administrator gave the new hires a stoneto represent the "milestone" we'd reached. I use it as a paperweight, and students always ask, "Why do you have a rock on your desk?" I tell them it was a gift from someone once and it has lot of personal meaning behind it. May sound corny, but it really does.

If you do want to buy something, perhaps an engraved desk clock, business card holder, leather portfoliosomething he could use in his office would be good, IMO. You could try www.thingsremembered.com.

And though some of the items are a bit pricey, this is a great site for unique gifts: http://www.uncommongoods.com/

Most men love to be babied ~ I think showering him with a little extra TLC would be greatly appreciated. You could present it in gift certificate-form, or you could make cute little coupons that he could redeem. Working with Debbie's idea, the coupons could be for:

* dinner at a favorite restaurant
* a back scratch or a massage
* a full breakfast with his favorites
* other stuff he might really dig but I can't type on a public forum :eek:

The stone gift is a cool idea, Cathy. I really like the symbolism.
