Got my Troy Lite...

...and what a difference it has made for me. I've been using my Firm barbell forever and after reading all the posts about the thicker versus thinner bar, I decided to place my order. It's incredible how much better I feel using it. It may be in my head, but lower body work feels better. And upper body, there's no comparison. When doing ME with the Firm bar, I struggled with the bicep work and would have minimal weight on the bar. This past week, using the Troy, I was able to use 20 lbs., and although I skipped a few at the end, I felt great! I just love it!!!:7

I knew you'd be happy Michele. I think with the extra thickness in the other bars we used, we were having to grip so hard to hang onto it. (SHORT, stubby fingers here!) I LOVE my Troy too. It is one of my favorite toys. My steps and now my High Step rank right up there with my Troy. Have fun. Donna, get that credit card out. They are such a nice addition to your equipment.

Ugh boy me thinks I need to take out my CC ouch! I too have the Firm barbell but I'm soooooo tempted to get that Troy; my hubby's gonna kill me hehehe:7

Firm barbell

You won't believe the difference between the Troy and Firm barbells. Although I like the padding of the Firm for lower body work, the improvement in my overall strength is incredible...and I've only used the Troy twice. I got done the biceps in ME and was in shock that I was able to *almost* do it all with 20 pounds, and the week before I was STRUGGLING to complete it with the Firm and only the
2.5 pound weights on both ends. If I didn't have it, I probably wouldn't believe that it could make such a difference!

Now, I just gotta sneak in that high step...}(

Me too, me too!

I have had the EXACT same experience! I think I love my Troy almost better than my brand-new-got-it-today High Step topper... well, okay, it's a tie! :)

I leave my FIRM barbell loaded for lower body -- only the moves that require me to rest it on what Cathe calls "the meaty part" of the trapezius. (Yup, meaty alright.) For everything else I'm using the Troy. The most immediate and almost shocking difference was in biceps work, but I've found that I can go much heavier now on back work too. You know when Cathe does those overhand-grip barbell rows in sets of seven? It used to be that I just couldn't make it to the end of the last set because my forearms were screaming in pain. Now I feel totally comfortable and my back is really doing the work.

I'm telling all of ya who haven't ponied up, it's the best $50 you'll spend for yourself on fitness toys (well, once again, short of the High Step...) :)

Hey Kathy and Debbie!

Okay, you both have got me really itching for the new high step. Do you really (I mean REALLY) think that it's worth getting? What's the biggest difference? I have the original Firm 12" box and even was sucker enough to buy the new "Fanny Lifter" which is the same height.
I am always ready to buy new gear, but I just gotta hear how it's worth sneaking in!

RE: Hey Kathy and Debbie!

I have the 14" FL and I am amazed at how different adding just those two inches that I get with 6 risers and my High Step topper (total of 16") made. The move is so much more intense and centralized in my glutes/hams for leg presses. I always thought 14" was a good height for me (I am 5'4" almost) and decided since Cathe who is shorter uses 16", I am going to try it. My leg is still at a 45* angle. Plus, my FL is the wooden one so it would scoot all over. This one stays put. LOVE it for a seat for upper body and sit'n'stands too. It just plain feels cool. You gotta have one. Definitely worth SNEAKING in!!

Kath!

Those 7 barbell rows used to KILL my hands too. I actually would get pain in my wrists/hands/forearms from trying to hold the thick bar so tight so I wouldn't drop it. Same thing for deadlifts. I just could not get a good grip with my fingers. THEN, Cathe would do another set! I never have trouble doing them with my Troy! Amazing what your grip can do, huh?

RE: Kath!

Okay, I have a question for you Troy Lite users that also ordered extra plates. Did they send the extra plates in a separate carton or did they package everything together? I'm trying to figure out the best way to order and the best place/way to have it delivered! Thanks.

Wow! I've been pushing the Troy lite and didn't even realize some bars are thicker! I have loved my Troy lite set since the moment it arrived about a year ago. It has to be one of the best $50 I've ever spent. Enjoy!! And anyone who is on the fence, get off!!:D

RE: Kath!

Donna-
I've found Fitness1st to be very accommodating. Just call and tell them what you want, and they'll let you know if they can do it.

RE: Hey Kathy and Debbie!

Hi Debbie! I don't have any video in which Cathe uses 16" for leg presses, or at least I don't think I do. Which video are you referring to? Thanks!

RE: Kath!

I ordered extra plates, and I think all the plates came together (and the bar came in a separate box?--it's been a while)

I recently got my Troy Lite and did PowerHour. What a difference!

That was THE BEST purchase I have made this year: and with hubby's blessings! heheheh...

I could do the whole workout WITH the barbell, including squats and lunges....can you believe that? My other barbell weighs 15 lbs...without weights! By the time I had my little "doughnuts" on the bar (like 5 pounds, each), I would be having the most awful time trying to finish biceps and was much less able to do the lunges, etc.

I agree that those $50 are the best spent money on this type of equipment. What a difference. Now, I look forward to doing those workouts (PH, ME, MIS) so that I can use the Troy barbell.:p

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/lach.gif[/img]

Hi Nancy!

It's Muscle Endurance. Do you have that one? Tons of leg presses, plus she uses the High Step to sit on for upper body. (HOPE you feel better SOON!)

I just got one also. I know a lot of people have ordered the $50 set, but, if you don't want two sets of 2.5 lb. plates, or if you already have some plates and don't need all of them in that set, it's actually cheaper to order by individual pieces. I wound up getting the bar and a set of 7.5 and 10 lb plates. The bar came just wrapped in a corrugated wrap, and the plates came in a separate box.

I've been sick with bronchitis and just got back into working out on Saturday after 2 weeks off. I did ME, and was about the same on the bicep curls as usual (which could be good after the time off!). The big differences I noticed were the dead rows, as others have mentioned, and the clean and presses. More importantly, I had thought I was at a plateau on leg work, because I couldn't get more than 40 lbs over my head, because I had difficulty getting it up to my chest with an overhand grip (the clean part of the clean and press). Well, I lifted that 40 lbs. Saturday, and it was easy! I'm going to start going up on the lower body work this weekend. I also found that I don't miss the padding on the firm barbell, even with the Troy Lite on my shoulders, and I actually don't have much personal padding there.

I had to take three more days off after Saturday because of a migraine (I'm on a great new prescription drug, Relpax--I highly recommend it, but it interacts with the antibiotic I just finished, and I couldn't take it this time), but I did PS BB&A this morning, and was able to do one set of barbell curls at 30lbs. My previous best was 27.5. I'm anxious to try it with C,S&T tomorrow.

Thanks Lisa! I think I'll order the full set plus some of the lighter plates for versatility, and a set of the 10 pound plates.

Hey Donna!

I didn't order extras. The 1" plates I had for my FIRM barbell work fine, and they also sell 1" plates very cheaply at Sports Authority should I ever need to add more. I know the Troy rubberized plates are fabulous, but this is one place where I can be a wee bit disciplined!

By the way, the bar came wrapped up like a poster, and the plates (35 pounds -- 2 7.5 lbs, 2 5 lbs., 4 2.5 lbs) came in a separate box. And I had it all on the second business day after I ordered using standard shipping. Great customer service!
