Goose Down Comforter or Synthetic Down Comforter????

What are the advantages??? I am not allergic - but it would be nice to be able to wash my down comforter>?

Anyone have an AWESOME down comforter that is "light" - i don't like super heavy..
 
We all have light down comforters in my house, and they are machine washable. I got them from Land's End. They carry three different weights, and I have the lightest one. I love them! Plus, you can change the duvet cover for alot less than buying a whole new comforter.
 
I don't know that there are advantages if you're not allergic. I would NEVER give up my down--I have a comforter, sofa throws, & a couple of coats. In fact, I don't know if the synthetic is as warm as down. My mom told me (so take this w/a grain of salt) that there's something about down that uses your own body heat for warmth.

And I do wash my comforter (king sized!) & throws. Gentle cycle/warm water.
 
I also have a down comforter, I think I got it at Pottery Barn many years ago.

I wash it in the washing machine on gentle cycle/warm water like Laura about twice a year, otherwise, I just throw it in the dryer on medium / high heat once a month to kill anything nasty in there. I don't want to wash it too often because I think they get kind of flat after a while.

It is not quite as hot in the summer, but is nice and comfy in the winter when the temperatures drop.
 
You can wash either one. I've had both and the down is much fluffier. Like Natalie, I think I got mine from LLBean or Land's End, and there were several different weights. I would never go back to the primaloft. The primaloft was light and warm, but the down is lighter and warmer. We love it!
 
I have a down blanket and I love it! I use it year round -- it's so light it doesn't weigh you down or suffocate you, but it keeps you plenty warm in the winter months. I got mine from Midwest Feather and Down. their quality and prices are excellent.

Wow, what timing. We are looking at getting new bedding, and I was pretty set on getting a regular comforter and then I found a duvet cover that I loved, so I started looking at down comforters. But wow, those puppies are expensive! I was looking at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and just a middle of the line down comforter in a queen is around $250-$350. Plus if I spend another $130 on the duvet cover, that's $380-$480 and I haven't even bought sheets yet! I have a bunch of 20% off coupons for that store, but still!

Sooo...is down worth the extra $$$ and does it stay fluffy? Also, are duvets/duvet covers a hassel to deal with? I like the idea of versatility, but it looks kind of confusing trying to stuff a comforter in there...maybe I'm making things too hard!

WOW - I have learned a ton today from surfing the websites and gettting referrals on stuff...

I went to Overstock and they have quite a few of them, but not sure on the return policy?? Anyone buy from that website? I have never bought from there..


I have found several that are ridiculous in price and overstock and a few other places have them on sale for around 100-150 - just wish i knew exactly what I liked...hmmmm

I love my down comforter. I've had it for about a year and don't know how I ever lived without one. Huge difference from synthetic. Keep checking Bed Bath and Beyond as they have them at 50% off a couple times a year. You can also add on the 20% off coupon for a significant discount. Remember there are different qualities in down, so do your homework.
