Good Weightlifting DVD for Teenage Boys

Ivy

Cathlete
This question may have been asked before, I thought it was but I could not find the thread. My twelve almost thirteen year old is a basketball player, however, he would like to get a little stronger and a little faster. I plan on trying to do some interval training twice a week with him starting off with only 15 minutes at first. With the weights I am wondering if there are any good dvd's out there for him, I am not going to let him go very heavy and because he does not like formal training as much, I want to use a get and get out approach with the weightlifting. Any suggestions, anyone?

Thanks.

Ivy, alot of our teen boys are doing P90x....

Do you know of a good nutrition book that a teen boy would read and embrace, something like Body for life or something? My son is a chicken nugget junkie....ugh....

Hi Ivy

Your 12-13 y.o. son might like this set: Weider X-Factor ST - Weider BUT buy it from here: Weider X Factor Nutrition Guide, Weider X-Factor ST DVD, 60 Day Workout Plan, X Factor Workout

They are short and use only body weight or resistance band.

Another option is:

SKOGG System - Michael Skogg

They are short and they also teach proper kettlebell form so he won't injure himself during basketball season.

Or this might appeal to him:

Georges St-Pierre RUSHFIT - Home Exercise Program Workout DVDs and MMA Training Videos - GSP RUSHFIT but order through Amazon

I have not done Weider, but boy, you can't beat the price point. I loved both Skoggs and Rushfit. I thought they were very good programs.

One more option is paper workouts from Crossfit - I think these would appeal to your son too. Welcome to CrossFit: Forging Elite Fitness or Mountain Athlete

I have a 14 yo son. He is at that stage where working out with me would be appalling to him, but he gladly takes my handwritten circuit workout and goes off to the exercise room alone. He comes out sweaty and happy. He does allow me to show him proper form on moves he is unfamiliar with.

:D

Thanks for all the great information ladies, I surely do appreciate it. They grow up so fast, it is nice that atleast we have the knowledge to start them off on the right path.
